10 Reasons the TPP Is Not a 'Progressive' Trade Agreement

Ralph Nader

"We have an opportunity to set the most progressive trade agreement in our nation's history," it states on BarackObama.com, the website of the president's "Organizing for Action" campaign.

The lack of news coverage of the TPP, combined with the stealthy bipartisanship behind it, tell us that this latest, worst "free" trade agreement will be genuinely ruinous, and puts the lie to the idea that we live in any sort of actual democracy. Most Americans, if asked, would guess that the TPP is a new iPhone app, before they'd guess that it is the traitorous bill that will one day take their job. Most have never even heard of the TPP, as they are deliberately distracted by the Duggars and Bruce/Caitlyn Jenner, and most never will.

Media coverage shall remain minimal, by design. Obama will quietly declare victory when he signs off on the legislation. Both sellout Parties will ensure that the TPP stays off the radar during the farce that is the Presidential election.

In a few years, when tens more millions lose their jobs, vague references will be made linking all the offshoring to the TPP, but most Americans will never, ever know what hit them.

Thank you, Mr. Nader, for laying out the many ways that this covert trade pact will do to citizens slowly what war does rapidly.

At a time when Mother Nature is expressing countless paroxysms in response to the myriad ways that her natural resources are being pillaged, plundered, and exploited... the fact that a small group of white men in suits can further condemn HER and all sentient creatures that rely on her bounty to forms of rape along with the enslavement (through odious things like forcing natural communities into strict, rigid mono-culture formation) of critical ecosystems is nothing short of a crime against humanity and nature.

Obama's flim-flam arguments are a replay of Clinton's insistence that NAFTA would bring job benefits and increase workers' standard of living.

Since this billionaire boys' club (with its few token women and persons of color tossed in) controls the media, they put Goebbel's "Lie told often is perceived as true" to work.

And so the same dingdongs who WANT war and used the "Saddam gassed his own people," replayed that SAME LINE only this time, the stage-play featured Syria's Assad.

And the same dingdongs who WANT the world's people to function like slaves unto the new corporate pharaohs lie about the impact of these policies by stating ridiculous things like the treaty is "Progressive" or that it will bring more jobs to our homeland.

I think the pertinent question is: What does a soul cost these days? Did Obama's trade in for a cool billion--the cost of funding his initial presidential campaign? Judging by the returns on these types of corporate investment, often a check for $500,000 (via a well-placed lobbyist) will win its donor many millions in return, policy-wise.

It is incomprehensible that at this dire hour with Mother Nature's implosions a ticking time bomb, that idiots with status condemn the world to a far worse fate than would be the case if honest people with integrity, inventors who know what the next energy systems require, and investors who still have intact souls were at the command controls.

These bastards WANT a worldwide revolution and they probably had it in their sights to GAME all systems to their own advantage (as the financial logistics exposed by the Piketty Study makes plain)... knowing that blowback would come through citizens' uprisings. That is WHY they set up the false flag which created a pretext for building up domestic militias and rolling back Civil Liberties with too many Conservative courts and judges willing to go along with the whole authoritarian bamboozle.

Now, with the "war on terror" long established and SO many people in uniform trained to take aim "at their own," if these Plutocratic treaties do pass... they are going to foment impossible responses.

A Deep State is running the agenda and it's mugged Democracy.

"The master planners devised the strategy of a merger - a Great Merger - among nations.
But before such a merger can be consummated, and the United States becomes just another province in a New World Order, there must at least be the semblance of parity among the senior partners in the deal. How does one make the nations of the world more nearly equal? The Insiders determined that a two-prong approach was needed; use American money and know-how to build up your competitors, while at the same time use every devious strategy you can devise to weaken and impoverish this country. The goal is not to bankrupt the United States. Rather, it is to reduce our productive might, and therefore our standard of living, to the meager subsistence level of the socialized nations of the world.
The plan is not to bring the standard of living in less developed countries up to our level, but to bring ours down to meet theirs coming up... It is your standard of living which must be sacrificed on the altar of the New World Order."

The problems associated with today's utter dependence upon long-distance driving are mirrored in globalization which serves manufacturers shipping the longest distance. Just as absurd traffic undermines other fundamental modes of urban/suburban travel, the global economy undermines the more important local, regional, state and national economies.

Here then is a basic outline for reducing fuel/energy consumption in planning future economies. Drive less, fly less, truck and ship goods around the world less. No doubt, Big Oil, Auto and Boeing would rather cities remain places citizens seek vacations elsewhere, only to find more of the same demoralizing traffic and rural campground RV, jetski and snowmobiles a rumbling desacration of nature. I wish I could say I think you're wrong....but I think you are right on. frowning

So when your last sentence prediction comes true, what do you see happening?

Wow, Sioux, you outdid yourself on this one. Well spake!

It is not just the USA that will get screwed. And the Chinese corporations must be slobbering at the mouth as they consider just how they can rape Australasia from Vietnam to Tasmania.

So THIS is what Barry the Liar meant by "Hope and Change". Got it. The unmitigated gall of calling this horrendous trade agreement "progressive" is staggering.

Agreed, It was an excellent post.
