100+ Groups to Justin Trudeau: Pull the Plug on 'Broken' Pipeline Process

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

Decrying Canada's "costly, broken" pipeline approval system, more than 100 groups on Thursday urged Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to immediately halt the review process—including for two especially controversial projects—due to its failure to properly engage First Nations communities or assess potential greenhouse gas emissions.

The 100 groups appear to be wearing blinders if they are focused on pipelines while the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) will result in more environmental degradation in Canada and elsewhere than all of the world's pipelines combined.

TPP, which Trudeau has unequivocally assured President Obama and the Japanese President that he supports will take judicial authority (for all things environmental and economic) away from Canada's local, state and federal governments and hand it over to global corporations. Any of Trudeau's overtures to controlling pipelines will mean nothing once Obama's TPP is signed. Canadians have more to lose economically and environmentally than Murkins do if TPP succeeds.
