68% Want to Hike Taxes on the Rich to Help the Poor, Survey of 21 OECD Nations Shows

Jake Johnson, staff writer

A large majority of residents in the world's leading capitalist nations responded with a resounding "yes" to a survey asking whether they support hiking taxes on the rich to fund social programs for the poor.

A majority of residents in all 21 countries included in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) survey published Tuesday said their governments should "tax the rich more than they currently do in order to support the poor."

"Pay it to the Taxman."

Pardon my pessimism, but rather than funding social programs, it seems likely that if progressivity is once again applied to our tax laws, any additional money raised will go down the same military/industrial rat hole we’ve been shovelling into since the end of WW2.

"68% is a clear majority. Let’s legislate it, overrule the Assholes veto, and pass it into law."

Any Congress-Critter that doesn’t go along with the will of the people, gets a free one-way trip to political obscurity.

Out back, up against the fence style. If you know what I mean.

A Class of “RICH” people gives them a monopoly on the rest of us –
just as a corporation with monopoly, such as oil industry, puts us all at their
mercy and suicidal behaviors.

Basically that could be “AX the RICH.”

Unfortunately, the rich make the tax laws. How long would a hike on their tax rates last? They gamed the system so the people will lose.

Why aren’t we talking about getting the rich and their puppet politicians out of the lawmaking business?

With Direct Democracy, We the People make the tax laws and all other laws too.

Only 68%? Where’s the rest of you? Or don’t you care?

I am sure that 99% care, but some believe it would not matter if 99% cared.

The mystery is why 32 per cent don’t want this, and why in just about any general election you care to name (Britain’s 1945 election was an exception), it’s their view which will prevail and nothing will change.

Tax the rich. Sounds like an Un-American activity, but then so is their absolute greed and buying off a political system favorable to their avarice. Maybe they can forgo one shopping trip to Paris in their Leer?.

And once we end lobbying, they might have to go back home and get a real job.

In some ways the Eisenhower years were more socialistic than we’ve seen in the U.S. since. High marginal tax rates and huge funding of public projects that benefited society at large.

Maybe they are afraid that the master will find out that they are not going along with the plan. There are a lot of brainwashed people on the American plantation.

If the top 1% were only entitled to 1% of all government related benefits, they would find a way to rob, cheat, and/or steal as much as they could get away with.

Un-American?

Absolutely.

Gerrymandered districts are happy to re-elect these douschbags because they are just like the people they vote for. Eliminating them takes a round of voting reform first. Gerrymandering of both duopoly’s and eliminating voting restrictions. Then there is the voting machines, and crooked politicians involved in ballot handling and counting. What a fricking mess.

Maybe the younger ones would have to go back to lawyering, but the older ones are all millionaires.

Good answer… That means people have given up hope… which could relate to just about any issue these days. This explains why nothing ever gets better, only worse… and will continue to do so.

End Lobbying? Why do that when that’s how many can make easy money and get rich? This is the best job in town and it’s perfectly legal to lie and cheat. Actually sounds like a good gig!

We are Un-American in a sense as well, because we allowed all of this to happen over time and reach this horrific point in the darkest days in our history.
