Eugene Robinson should not concede that “green new deal” sounds like “pie in the sky”.

It only sounds like pie in the sky to right-wing Americans.

And milquetoast liberals like Eugene, a guy who spends most mornings sanitizing the neoconservative pontifications of Joe Scarborough.

AOC does not know what is under the hood of her car. First, she needs to know that refineries heat crude oil (that requires energy) and the more volatile compounds, like ethers, are removed. Then the less volatile substances, like gasoline are removed. All machines, no matter how they are powered, create friction between the moving parts and that requires lubrication with lighter oil-- motor oil. The wheels have bearings between the axles and the wheel hubs, and they require thick wheel bearing grease. No plant based vegetable oils will fill the bill. So 100 per cent renewable energy is out of the question.

Second, whatever percentage renewable energy we settle on, it is most unlikely that the changes in our lifestyles that will be required can be made in only ten years. So as has been said, the devil is in the details.

“The Green New Deal” has capiltalized Green in its name, in deference to the party a lot of peoole dont get to hear about. My greatest surprise is that the Dems floated this very groundbreaking proposal starting with Green.
