A Message to PBS: Televise the Impeachment Hearings for All to See

Not gonna happen. The News Hour is now produced by Comcast.

Common Dreams. 11/8/19:

Here is my message to SCETV in Columbia, SC:

SCETV has several public affairs TV shows-Margaret Hoover, PBS News Hour, and others.

I have been for many years a strong supporter of both radio and TV; UPON PAIN OF NO MORE DONATIONS, do NOT bury the IMPEACHMENTHEARINGS in some godforsaken who-knows=where time slot.

I expect SCETV to air the IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS IN PRIME TIME. I don’t care what “national” PBS NewsHour does; I watch in Columbia @ zip code 29206 and I FULLY expect to see MY station broadcast the HEARINGS in prime time on a proud platform.

I am sorry that y’all accepted Koch brothers money and it is too bad that much of ESTAblishment media Is trying to hide the candidacy of Senator Sanders, the most popular politician in the US; mebbe richer donors than I are demanding that y’all ignore impeachment hearings of the monster in the White House, BUT I AM AN INFORMED CITIZEN AND I wish to see the HEARINGS broadcast in prime time and front&center.\

Cool. I was in the 1st Geodetic out of FE Warren in Cheyenne (the only geodetic squadron in the AF). We (the surveyors) were always on TDY (“temporary duty”) and would send one of us to go with our pallet of equipment to jobs, flying on Logair stretch 130s and Lockheed L-188 Electras as well as Air Force C-141s and C-5s. I forgot what the guys who were on a job on Pitcairn Island used to get there (not one of my jobs). Others, before I got it, were in Laos (lookup LS-85, we “were not” there officially) which was wiped out by the NVA, though the members of my squadron were done with their part of the work before the massacre and I worked with several when I got to the squadron. We also had TDYs in Thailand and Burma and other places like Laos where we never were (officially).
When I joined the Air Force in 1968 it was because I had been in Civil Air Patrol since 1960 where I also worked at our small town airport gassing and washing airplanes. So I loved to fly in any capacity so I always volunteered to be courier for our equipment for a job. I remember liking the L-188’s stew seats best (could sleep easier), the 130’s back of cockpit couches as extra noisy and 141s I remember looking up at the cargo from in front of the netting thinking about hard braking (ha).
The Air Force sent me along with 18 others to the Army’s engineer school at Ft. Belvoir in 1969, which was where TopoCom was located (moved later to Ft Leonard Wood I was told).
When I went in I believed a lot of conventional history. When I came out I believed less. Now I believe almost none of it.
In the 2cnd (I think) Bourne movie the Bourne character confronts his would be assassin atop a building and asks him to his face, “Do you even know why you are supposed to kill me?” That question contains so much. Why are “we” killing each other for a couple of incompetent fools at the top who have a beef with each other. Why can’t the fools at the top at least get in a ring and punch it out for themselves? Why did we ever go along with any of it and why does it keep going on? And why is this an “adventure?”
Cheers,
Mike

Yeah-that might interfere with the old libido.

PBS is going to broadcast as the update shows. Lots of Trump trolls showing up from behind the curtain though.

It is one thing to join a forum to debate but an entirely different matter when your agenda is apparently to insult and disrupt the conversation.

OK, so what you are saying it is propaganda you don’t like.

OK: THIS is the propaganda you do like. And by the way, as an eco-socialist–a humanist–I posit that inequality and the ecological crisis, along with the other existential threat of nuclear winter, will impact us all and so cooperation and understanding of our common humanity is a necessity if we are going to have a future at all.

Well said and drawn from personal experience to make it even more convincing.

PBS will ultimately “fair and balance” propaganda for Republicans and the fascist Trump.

My guess is the CPB and by extension PBS loves their Trump, at the end o’ the day.

All of the corporate “sponsors” that run that broadcasting swamp want 4 more years of huge tax cuts and the wrecking ball Republican version of neoliberal and libertarian-esque economic policy that is set to break open that last frontier of screwing the masses for profit…eviscerating what’s left of the New Deal programs.

Expect zero coverage of anything having to do with Trump’s corruption relative to his decades long dealings with various corporations, banks, etc that are neck deep in corruption with him.

That’s why you didn’t hear it from Mueller, why you won’t hear it from the Democrats running the impeachment proceedings, and why of course you won’t hear it on corporate owned media including KPBS.

Cluck.

It was the third Bourne movie. He asks the same thing that the would-be assassin (Clive Owen) in the first movie said to Bourne - “Look at what they make you give” before he dies.

I watched a little of NBC “News” the other night on YouTube. It was awful.

Mike, Sorry for taking so long to get back. I want to quote the last part of your reply, "When I went in I believed a lot of conventional history. When I came out I believed less. Now I believe almost none of it.

Likewise, many of us have entertained the thought, “Why can’t the fools at the top at least get in a ring and punch it out for themselves?” Those fools do get in a ring of their own making and they do punch it out, only they punch it out with us, our resources and many totally innocent societies. They then take the ‘to the victor go the spoils’. Only the spoils will never belong to those fools so long as we keep allowing them to claim those spoils for themselves. The true spoils which they never claim are us and them; the bodies, the grief, the lost sons and daughters, the mental mayhem, the kids who will never get to know their parents, the physical and mental destruction of people and the complete destruction of cities, countries and landscapes. The environmental degradation that always lies in the wake of hyped up nationalism and patriotism by those who sit in rooms full of important feeling people tossing back their cocktails in “tails” and gowns and never dirtying their hands with the blood and gore and heartaches of war. What more is there to say? How do we stop this ongoing madness? How do we make for a future for our future generations? How do we make for a present for those innocents who suffer the consequences of our bombs dropping on their now? There are many good people in our country; but, our country as a nation was founded on bull shit and violence set up for a few rich, narcisstic people. When we quit believing this propaganda and allowing our kids to believe it then we can start working on actually living in a peaceful world and coming together as a world intent on surviving the impending climate disaster instead of a world seemingly intent on destroying itself. How much longer do we tolerate these fools?
“Adventure”, a risky, usually hazardous undertaking with uncertain results. I should have found a better word.
