A World That Is the Property of the 1%

Nomi Prins

As we head into 2019, leaving the chaos of this year behind, a major question remains unanswered when it comes to the state of Main Street, not just here but across the planet. If the global economy really is booming, as many politicians claim, why are leaders and their parties around the world continuing to get booted out of office in such a sweeping fashion?

The elites have had their time in the spotlight. What has been revealed is only dishonesty and greed.

Now, it’s time for all of them to bleed a lot more of their wealth until they are caught up with the rest of us.

#3

As long as the FIRE sector dominates the economy, the 1% will reap the gains, while everyone races to the bottom. That’s a feature, not a bug, in our system.

#4

Go to Wall St. and make your nut and then write about (the very real) horrors of it all. Not bad work if you can get it.

Prins, like many of us who spent time in the sausage factory and lived to tell about it have proven to be some of the few sources of objective information in a world of neocon and neoliberal hyperbole.

Had there been a microgram of truth in Obama’s hope and change mantra he would have appointed Prins to head the US Treasury Department rather than appointing corporate operatives to Treasury (and every other department) that appear acceptable only when compared to Trump appointees.

After the crash of 2007-8 the Richest 100 billionaires on the planet added an extra £250 billion to their income enough to end world poverty Four times over .

The world must wake up …

and another Biden, Clinton and the false progressives will not change a thing. It will continue like it did under Obama.

There is nothing more dangerous than to construct a society with segments in that society that feel they have no stake in the society because they end up with despair because they have no jobs, because they can’t educate their children, because they can’t live in a nice home, because they can’t have adequate health facilities And we all know how that might end.

Remember Wall Street according to the MSM is doing great- but most regular people do not invest in that gambling pit.

#11

Capitalism was designed only to make money for the rich and to have rampant waste .

#12

The same people who caused it blamed Main Street for being so “stupid.”

Hope all of the banksters and Wall Streeters go to hell.

Am reminded of a couple of juicy quotes from a similar past epoch:

“Let them eat cake!” and “Off with their heads!”

Using sarcasm will not effect change/

They want to get rid of us so they can have more.

#18

True, but capitalism has always been about money period.

#19

The US itself is rich vs. middle class vs. poor. As long as liberals try to sweep this point under the carpet, they’ll never quite “get” what’s happening here.

#20

I think what we might be seeing is the rich stepping up to do to the middle class essentially what the middle class did to the poor. We embraced “survival of the fittest” capitalism since the 1990s, and we just have to deal with the consequences.
