Aetna's Greed Proves that Medicare-for-All Is the Best Solution

Lauren McCauley, staff writer

Insurance behemoth Aetna announced late Monday that it is pulling out of Obamacare public exchanges in 11 states, citing projected financial losses because of the high number of people who—it turns out—need expensive medical care.

Following a string of similar announcements, advocates of single-payer healthcare say that these departures only underscore the fact that "big commercial insurance corporations" will always "put profits before patients' health."

Sen. Elizabeth Warren skewers insurance giant for Obamacare withdrawal, saying: 'The health of the American people should not be used as bargaining chips'......Liz, are you For or Against a Single Payer System?'

This is a Business= they are supposed to make profits.
If you wanted a healthcare system, you would have chosen otherwise.

Sen. Warren-- why don't you get serious and honest; stop playing politics.

Warren had a chance to back Bernie and his medicare for all plan. She didn't.

Liz Warren is "with her," so she supports Hillary's "public option," which is a sham, designed to destroy Medicare. Clinton's "public option" would result in the sickest (most expensive) patients switching to Medicare coverage, draining Medicare funds. The healthier patients would stay with the private insurers.

The point of single-payer healthcare is the administrative savings, which are enormous, and the co-mingling of all participants, healthy and sick, so that the costs per participant are lowered. Clinton's plan is NOT single-payer, and will lower costs primarily for the insurance companies.

Read this and weep: "Destroying Medicare to Save ObamaCare: Hillary Clinton’s “Public Option” Plan" http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2016/05/destroying-medicare-to-save-obamacare-hillary-clintons-public-option-plan.html

"In summary, Clinton’s attempt to save ObamaCare politically by adding on the “public option” is a bait and switch operation designed to eliminate the threat of Medicare for All. It worked that way in 2009, and Clinton’s pulling the same play out of the Democrat playbook for 2016. In, fact Clinton’s “public option,” despite her wonky reputation, is so skimpy on detail is to be insultingly unserious, exactly like the “public option” in 2009. The Democratic Establishment remains implacably opposed to Medicare for All, and if by some miracle they manage to pass the “public option,” that will undermine the existing Medicare program, which is no doubt their goal. On the life-and-death issue of providing health care to all Americans, there is more that divides us than unites us."

This makes me feel a little less bad about having to vote for Clinton in my swing state.

See how well that "free market" works for everyone. Everyone who is rich, I mean.

Why does Common Dreams helpfully inform us that Bernie Sanders is in favor of Medicare for All, someone who is no longer running for president, and Hillary Clinton's meaningless campaign stance, while once again disappearing Jill Stein from the discussion?

For anyone who is new to the Common Dreams comments, Jill Stein is the Green Party's candidate for president. Of the United States. Of America. She is a Harvard trained medical doctor, and a long-time passionate supporter of a single payer health care system.

From Jill Stein's platform:

Health Care as a Right:
•Establish an improved “Medicare for All” single-payer public health program to provide everyone with quality health care, at huge savings by eliminating the $400 billion annually spent on the paperwork and bureaucracy of health insurance. No co-pays, premiums or deductibles. Access to all health care services, including mental health, dental, and vision. Include everyone, period. No restrictions based on pre-existing illness, employment, immigration status, age, or any other category.
•Eliminate the cancer of health insurance, which adds costs while reducing access to health care.

Hillary Clinton's call for a public insurance option so that everyone in every exchange in the country has a choice of an affordable option is more essential than ever."

More narcotic sprinkling of fairy dust on non existent unicorns.

The PTB do not intend for the plebes to have Health CARE. No, the primary purpose of Obamacare is to provide Health INSURANCE, a classic middleman situation that siphons money away from providing actual care. The multilevel loophole ridden, swiss cheese of care distorted by premiums, copays, and deductibles plus out of network doctors or hospitals is Neoliberalism at it's finest. A true "public option" will never be allowed to happen because it would lead to singlepayer and that's anethema to the Clinton Obama Clinton Project of middleman mediated complexity where the profits are found.

It does seem like that CD is not always treating Jill Stein as a viable candidate. It would seem journalistic to get a statement form the Stein/Baraka campaign or at least peruse the Green Party website for the official position on this and other issues. Having watched several speeches given by Jill Stein, it is apparent that she and the Green Party have thought deeply about healthcare, climate change, police brutality, foreign affairs and have actual policy platforms about them. It would be nice to see a critical contrast between the Stein/Baraka policies and the Clinton policies.

Starve the Red Queen's Masters!
Jill Stein, Green, 2016

OT, but HEY CD!!
Put an article out on this interview by Jill Stein - there are lots of others!

Here is another: this one!

We won't bail them out again, but the rich in power will bail themselves out again. One day though, the fiat money will not have any substance and there will be nothing to bail the rich out.

No Democrats
No Republicans
No More

#17

Excellent point. I expect more of CD. There is one candidate still talking about Medicare for All, so it is certainly worthy of note. Jill Stein 2016

#18

Health care is a right. Not a for-profit business!!!! Jill 2016

#19

After Clinton told primary voters that "single payer will never happen in the US" its hard to to listen to let alone lend any credence to Elizabeth Warren since she started zealously promoting Clinton.

Vote Green in 16 !

There should be no question that the GOP and the New Republican Party have no intention of helping the American people at the expense of corporate profits. Hillary and Trump do not care about you. They will deny you healthcare, they will export your jobs, and they will let the world burn.

The only question that remains is what will you do about it.

Vote Jill Stein 2016. Green party forever!

The best thing that could happen is for the ACA to rapidly collapse as it appears to be doing.

Even John McCain said today that, "every American should be covered" by our health care system.
When Republicans begin talking about universal health care, you know that change is in the air.

There are so many incorrect facts in your comment that I don't even know where to start.

So I won't.

Suffice to say that whatever news source you're using to gather your facts STOP.

Go elsewhere and get actual factual information.
