After 25 Years of Losing to Wall Street, Left-Wing Democrats Are Winning

William Greider

The rebellion of House Democrats that blocked the president’s trade deal with Asia is more than political humiliation for Barack Obama. It is the start of something far bigger—the revival of the Democratic Party as a born-again advocate for working people and economic justice.

The congressional defeat shocked Washington, where the cynical rule is “to get along, you go along.” Even though the Obama-Boehner-McConnell forces are attempting to resuscitate the “fast track” gimmick, the TPP fiasco will be remembered as a fundamental turn in the road.

Sounds good.

In the end, liberals always win. Now thanks to the Internet there is no excuse for ignorance and lack of communications.

Electronic direct democracy

Many liberals are leftists, but not all leftists are liberals (Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao for example).

I would say "Liberals and Progressives are winning". And conservatives are losing. How far can greed, lies, superstition, pollution, oligarchy, war and murder take cons and neolibs before they succumb to their own evil?

It's the polarity to Republican conservative right/wing.

Dictionaries have different definitions of Left and Right, but the
general idea is that the "Right" is for the status quo, and the
"Left" wants change. Greider needs to recognize that the
evil 2-party-zig-zag status quo keeps bending to the right.
Ask any "Democratic" party leader which economic system the party believes in-
they will say "Free Enterprise". Both parties believe in capitalism, with one PROFESSING
to want "progressive reforms". The Dem's may put on a"populist" show, but at its core,
the millionaires and billionaires will retain control, and the sincere
activists will just burn themselves out trying. It's been tried many times.
And some will sell their souls, enticed by big money, real or illusory.
Even before the REGRESSIVE reforms of the Democratic Leadership Council,
the "Democratic" party was engaging in
GENOCIDAL IMPERIALISM in Vietnam, and many other countries,
engaging in repression at home (COINTELPRO), and abroad
(CIA Operation Phoenix assassinations, etc.).
The "Democrats" have a distinct PATTERN of "supporting"
things like the ERA, Single-Payer, union rights, then putting up
a feeble show of a fight, selling out the struggle, earning the party the nickname "The
graveyard of movements".
The ruling class, the 0.1% are happy to have a scary, overt, REPUGNANT party,
and a "good cop" sedative, DEMAGOGIC party.
(Witness how few anti-war protests there have been, even as Obama has started
NUMEROUS new wars!)
Malcolm X said "They show you the teeth of the wolf,
so you run to the jaws of the fox."
So, in the days of the French Revolution, "Right" meant the
Monarchists. Today the status quo "Right" is BI-partisan capitalism,
and Left: REAL change requires socialism. (where positive reforms aren't reversed as
soon as we turn our backs), REAL change will come with a
CHANGE OF SYSTEMS. Sincere liberals work to alleviate
SYMPTOMS, without recognizing that we need to eliminate
the DISEASE!
IN-sincere liberals- the leaders- talk a good talk sometimes,
(That's why they like to "listen" to us!), but they pull enough
good people into their quicksand to head off REAL change.
That is the real act of SPOILING- the Dem's spoiling efforts
for peace, jobs (No WPA or CCC jobs programs this time!)...
More than a few Black people are asking "What's Obama done
for us?"
In the Depression of the1930's, only when people were
starting to massively join the radical parties and talk about
REVOLUTION, did FDR start to enact some reforms.
The "Democratic" mis-leaders use people like Jesse Jackson
and Bernie Sanders as "sheep-dogs" to corral people
back into the Dem. party and KEEP THEM FROM BUILDING
A NON-CORPORATE PARTY like the Greens. (THEY are the
party that has been calling for a New Deal, not the Dem's!)
Their use of sheep-dogs shows that the Dem. party leaders, and the
bi-partisan 0.1% think IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A DEFECTION BY
THE LIBERALS TO A NON-CORPORATE PARTY
COULD RESULT IN A NEW MAJORITY PARTY!
BOTH CAPITALIST parties should be recognized as right-
wing, while socialists would be the Left. The Green party, while
not socialist, IMHO, qualifies as Left by REFUSING corporate
money and opposing CORPORATE CONTROL OF THE PLANET.
Bernie Sanders may be refusing corporate money, but he
SETS A BAD EXAMPLE, TELLING PEOPLE THAT IT'S OK
TO JOIN A CORPORATE- CONTROLLED PARTY that won't be changed.
Sanders has pledged to support Hillary Clinton if and when she
wins the primary! He says he doesn't want to be a "spoiler", and
get a Republican elected. What does he think Hillary is?!
For me to support Sanders, he would have to change his tune
about things like Israel, Yugoslavia, Ukraine, the F-35, and he
would have to explain to the American people that the Democratic
party, too, is capitalist, and part of the problem, not the solution!
Corporations are not democratic institutions, but they effectively control BOTH parties.
The "Democrats" have a tactic of saying they "don't have a
position" yet on something as critical, and well understood by
regular people who are paying attention, as Fast-Track and TPP,
TTIP, TISA... (Despite the secrecy! THANK YOU WIKILEAKS HEROES! )
Obama calls Snowden a traitor! How good was the judgment of the
people who told us to vote for Obama?
Then they surprise the unsuspecting with a stab-in-the-back
vote in FAVOR of the Global Corporate Empire.
People with half a brain, who follow politics for more than 10 years-
should be able to see through the DEMAGOGY, AND SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH
OF AN OPEN MIND AND INTELLECTUAL CURIOSITY TO CHECK OUT
SOCIALIST GROUPS AND PUBLICATIONS, OR AT LEAST !- THE
GREEN PARTY!
When I see liberals, even "socialists" with such arrested development,
I have to wonder if they are government agents, or just opportunists,
bucking for a piece of the corruption.
