After Just a Few Months, Trump's Solar Tariffs Blamed for Billions in Shelved Clean Energy Projects

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

Since President Donald Trump approved a "reckless" 30 percent tariff on imported panel materials in January, U.S. clean energy developers have shelved more than $2.5 billion in solar projects, moves that have cost thousands of American jobs, according to Reuters.

Seems to whole point of these Trump tariffs was not to create jobs here but to kill off the threat of renewable energy to fossil fuels. Scott Pruitt loves it no doubt.

#3

Well, Reagan did it, so it must be the right thing to do. Right? /s

I cannot fathom the resistance to clean energy among the rank and file of either party. Is it ignorance, apathy, or plain old stupidity?

#4

Or could it be that dirtiest of fuels—filthy lucre?

#5

It is NOT “ignorance, apathy, or plain old stupidity”.

It IS corporate control of politics. The fossil fuel and nuclear industries see Trump and the GOP controlled Congress as the best opportunity they have ever had to destroy their competition, even better than when Saint Ron removed the PV array from the White House roof upon ascending the throne in 1981.

It’s intentional.

The Kochs paid big bucks for this type of decision.

So all our selected officials “fiddle” while the planet burns.

They are doing the equivalent of trying to put out a fire with gasoline, almost quite literally in this instance.
