Fires continued to smolder Tuesday morning as emergency crews assessed the damage after a train carrying Bakken crude oil derailed and exploded near the Mt. Carbon area of Fayette County, West Virginia.
The "blast zone" works like this: The combination of toxic chemicals released in an explosion simply sucks all of the oxygen from the lungs, thus collapsing them.
That's not quite how it works...
The next train departs at 11:57. Arrives at midnight.
Tens of millions living inside blast zone. Of course that is a no brainor. But of course, no matter how many have to die, inside the blast zone, the Kochroach brothers think it is worth it.
This is another reason to kick the fossil fuel addiction, not an excuse to build a pipeline.
Yes, we need to keep our drillers and frackers busy and out of mischief drilling and fracking enhanced geothermal systems instead of gas and oil wells and stuffing those geothermal systems with captured and compressed CO2. We also need a crash program to develop a renewable energy substitute for petroleum for those uses for which we can't use electric vehicles. Since Koch brothers make mostly petrochemicals rather than liquid fuels for transportation, it might make sense to ask them to move their factory right next to a tar sands deposit. Then hope the products are less hazardous to ship than dilbit.
