Great article, but it’s just not fair to call everyone who sees LGBTQ practice as dangerous to a society a “hate group.” We may disagree with them, but there are folks who “hate the sin (as they see it) but love the sinner.” I know such people in groups who are described as hate groups, and most of them are not hateful people. We weaken our case (and your article is so great at stating the case) if we attribute “hate” to people of good will who may just in good faith honestly see things differently. Let’s keep the high ground and not mindread.
Oh how nice. Let’s have a peek at the linked SPLC report sharing tidbits of compassion from the sinner-lovers mentioned, the American Family Association (formerly the National Federation for Decency):
In Its Own Words
“Homosexuality is a poor and dangerous choice, and has been proven to lead to a litany of health hazards to not only the individuals but also society as a whole.”
— AFA Action Alert, July 20, 2012.
“[Islam] is, in fact, a religion of war, violence, intolerance, and physical persecution of non-Muslims.”
— Tim Wildmon, March 6, 2012.
“The homosexual movement is a progressive outgrowth of the sexual revolution of the past 40 years and will lead to the normalization of even more deviant behavior.”
—Don Wildmon, AFA website, 1999 (still posted as of 2011).
“Homosexuality gave us Adolph Hitler, and homosexuals in the military gave us the Brown Shirts, the Nazi war machine and six million dead Jews.”
— Bryan Fischer, AFA director of issue analysis for government and public policy, 2010.
I’m having a real hard time understanding this “it’s just not fair to call everyone” blather from our visitor (welcome, btw, if you happen to be human). The article isn’t about everyone, you silly person. What is the article about? Maybe it’s about the first word in the headline: ALEC. Could be!
Your Theos is responsible for a lot of misery. He also seems to be hanging out with a lot of people whose politics support replacing (sic) modest democracy with iron-fist authoritarianism. We know these people, what they stand for and what they don’t.
The “hate the sin but love the sinner” observation is most applicable to the Democratic Party’s failure to make any progress on economic issues during the past four decades with their only progress being on “social issues”. Being owned by Wall Street, the Party is free to make progress on LGBTQ rights as long as those rights enhance Wall Street’s bottom line.
Legal same sex marriage, for example, created a huge new profit center for Wall Street.
Many thanks for naming names.
Right-wing, inhumane campaign. They’re good at it.
Doesn’t this action amount to increasing the burden on doctors, nurses, hospitals, law enforcement, etc.?
Why isn’t ALEC (and the others) liable for doing so?
Because, we live in a kleptocratic duopoly, without any say?
“_____ is a corporate pay-to-play operation where legislators and corporate lobbyists vote behind closed doors to adopt model legislation on a broad range of public policy issues…”
Isn’t this how Debbie Wasserman Shultz described her DNC, under oath, with a dead eyed sneer? Back to WORK, peons!
