Hard to fathom what leads to Weissman’s optimism in that last sentence

Hi unlikelysource:
I agree with Emily:
“Hope is a feathered thing which perches in the soul…” without that --o one would be be to change the world. : )

Gloriana, to me, Weissman is expressing optimism, even confidence, in
a “democratic process” that is not empirically based.

The “arc of the moral universe” does not historically bend toward
justice. It may be pulled or pushed in that direction, but it tends
to snap back with fearsome force.

I’m not implying that we should simply concede, for even if the quest
proves quixotic, no act of conscience is ever truly in vain. To
succumb to despair is to disable our humanity, but I believe it serves
no useful purpose to engage in pep talks that ignore the enormity of
the tasks before us.

I guess it’s just the Vulcan in me.

In maybe the 1960s or 1970s there was an Irish Republican Army probable terrorist named Ted Kennedy. Our government put him on the No Fly List. Then Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy tried to fly from Boston to Washington, DC one day and they wouldn’t let him on the plane. Serves him right for being of Irish ancestry, maybe?

Also in my memory, one site was censored for providing useful HIV information. Some algorithm thought the site was pornographic.

I write about this because Google’s search engine has censored my coronavirus statistics page for 45 days and counting. I take CDC numbers and massage them to find out how each state has been doing over the past five days. How are they ranked? The District of Columbia is the worst threat. At the bottom Montana has seen one new case in the past five days out of one million people. Moreover, has the pandemic been accelerating in the past five days or has it been reducing. If you want to see my censored site it’s at *ttp://quakerworks .net/statecoronavirusstatistics.htm As of yesterday at least I was still censored. duckduckgo’s search engine can find me fine.

I write to say that corporate-dominated censorship doesn’t work because the corporation will never put proper resources into censorship, they’re always and forever too profit-hungry about it, and this damages our democracy.

By the way, I don’t use Facebook and I run Privacy Badger to clean Facebook even further out of my computer. They’re too nosy.

Hi Unlikelysource:
Yes, I do see your point, but I was heavily influenced by my dad’s children’s book reading of the —" The Little Engine that Could—who said , “I think I can, I think I can…” : ) Or , there’s the other wonderful one about Ferdinand the Bull, that we are all wonderful just being who we are! : )
But as you are a Vulcan, I can see how some sensibilities would be different than mine. And too, I truly love both the color green and your lovely ears. : )
