Amid Warnings Saudi Attack Will Plunge Yemen Into Famine, Urgent Demand for US to End 'Complicity in This Atrocity'

Julia Conley, staff writer

Peace advocates and international observers are warning that a looming U.S.-backed assault on the Yemeni port city of Hudaydah could throw the war-torn country into the famine that human rights groups have warned about for months—and implored members of Congress on Tuesday to take immediate action to end the Saudi-led coalition's offensive.

Tragically and criminally, in a world where people are increasingly marginalized, discriminated against, pushed into poverty, displaced and thus become “expendable” - just “collateral damage” to be slaughtered without a thought, the deaths and displacement of millions committed by the rich and powerful or their agents, well-armed states, for control of territory, natural resources, religious or racist bigotry, are now the norm.

Also tragically the international mechanisms formed/enlarged after WWII in an ostensible attempt to limit or eliminate such crimes against humanity, are themselves increasingly marginalized, toothless and largely irrelevant…

The “big-dog” wages the wars and controls the narrative…the front page blather ordered and controlled by TPTB assure continued sleeping sheep, shackled to the wage and debt-interest slavery life of financial survival mode most people in the nations that commit these atrocities are shackled to. How did the most depraved people gain control over such enormities and the direction of what is most life on earth?

How did we get to this place of obscenity after atrocity after usury with millions having no time to see, no truth to hear, no vision of a different course to adopt to demand an end to how our brothers and sisters are being slaughtered and/or forced into living lives of desperation

Look for a rise in “defense” stocks again.

“Why of course the people don’t want war. Why should some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don’t want war: neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or fascist dictorship, or a parliament or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peace makers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”

“If the UAE and Saudi Arabia move forward with an offensive on Hudaydah, we call on Congress to immediately end all military support to the coalition’s intervention in Yemen.”
*Of course they can still use the several hundred billion$ in arms and ammo already sold to them. Before they are used up, Yemen may well have ceased to exist, but by that time, we will have made another agreement with the Saudis anyway.

The U.S. is not “complicit” in these slaughters, but instrumental and even causal. Words matter.
