An Orgy of Unnecessary Cruelty

An Orgy of Unnecessary Cruelty

Robert Reich

The theme that unites all of Trump’s initiatives so far is their unnecessary cruelty.

1. His new budget comes down especially hard on the poor – imposing unprecedented cuts in low-income housing, job training, food assistance, legal services, help to distressed rural communities, nutrition for new mothers and their infants, funds to keep poor families warm, even “meals on wheels.”

These cuts come at a time when more American families are in poverty than ever before, including 1 in 5 children.

This trump regime of idiots, fools, pathological liars and the malignant insane, is by far the most unbalanced, cruel, extremist, delusional and dangerous to America and the world in living memory! This psychopath trump must be taken down, but there are apparently no sane R'Cons in office and few Dems (except Sanders and a few others) with the gumption and clarity to call his and his cabinet's insanity and threat what it is! Yeah, now they threaten nuclear war (which it will turn into) against the North Korean extremist paranoid regime - great work! - and so much more of the same stupidity to soon follow! - and only two months into their nightmare tenure!

Every President, from Reagan on, has helped place Vulnerable Americans in a more and more precarious position, and now, the latest in line, Trump is aiming to provide the Final Nudge, so that they/we go over the Cliff.

You know, "...decrease the surplus population."

#4

" It violates every ideal this nation has ever cherished. We have a moral responsibility to stop it."

There have been a lot of "its" since the Spanish-American war when the USAian Empire first started on its adventures. Pity about the moral responsibility stuff. At least we Brits taught our colonials how to play cricket and built railways for them.

Trump is about bullying and vengeance. This is his vengeance against liberals. His rage against liberals probably goes all the way back to the time in the 1970s he was sued by the US government for housing discrimination against blacks. This is his attempt to get even for that and other things such as dealing with pollution regulations when building golf course. He will likely be stopped by Republicans who have to face the voters next year and realize that childish vengeance that winds up hurting the voters is not something to support if you want to keep your job.

What the hell is "unnecessary cruelty"? Is there also "necessary cruelty"? Why did Reich feel the need to insert that "unnecessary" qualifier?

Why? Because he is a typical hand-wringing spineless liberal - afraid of losing his status among the white affluent privileged...

#7

Defunding public schools and giving hundreds of millions to for profit private and religious schools is against our own laws.

#8

Why is he president then? This demented , mentally ill fool who has such a "bad" life on billions is a typical entitled child. And his voters get caught up in this unnessary funding to the military so they can act all macho.

#9

If he wants to decrease the surplus population, he should look in the mirror.

#10

He's president because, according to Dew Westen in "The Political Brain", 85 per cent of voters do so for emotional reasons.

#11

The orange rump and his henchmen are as evil, and insane a group as ha ever been in power!
The People's rebellion must be constant, and must take many forms! The survival of our Sacred Planet is at stake!

#12

He lives on another planet.

#13

If I could unlike this comment I would. You have a point that there really is no such thing as necessary cruelty, but your suggestion that Robert Reich is afraid of losing his status among the white affluent privileged is way wide of the mark. Reich - bless him - is as critical of the "affluent privileged" as Sanders is.
And just to be snarky, affluent and privileged mean virtually the same thing so you only need one of them.

trump has actually said this: He hates people with disabilities because they are useless. That includes veterans. I once met someone who said this years ago, and it turned out she worked for the government.

#15

He hates special needs kids, and he hates adults with special needs. This includes mental and physical. So.... let's say he met an engineer in a wheelchair. That person might have a little more value, but to Dump that person is still a drain on society. People with mental needs such as learning disabilities should not even exist and should be euthanized according to him because they are a drain. People have to wonder what happened to him ( other than being rich) to make him into such an A hat. Well, he obviously is mentally impaired, and some have questioned if he has dementia- he need to only look in the mirror. He has no values, has been quoted as saying that pets are a waste as well. And his sons kill wild animal.

It was daddy and junior involved in those suits and even though they lost, they said they won, so daddy had some delusion of grandeur as well.

#17

What word do you use to describe Democrats ending actual welfare aid and taking the first steps to similarly "reform" Social Security, targeting the disabled? As the overall life expectancy of the US poor fell below that of every developed nation, Dems in Congress kicked off 2015 with voting to virtually end food stamps to the elderly poor and the disabled (cut from $115 per month, down to $10). If the Democrats war on the poor hasn't been "an orgy of unnecessary cruelty," what would be?

#18

But they still got tired of cooking your curries and shining your shoes.

#19

I think it's gone beyond that for a lot of them. They realize their party and way of governing is almost dead because people are finally fed up beyond pacifying, and they just want to grab all the graft they can before they are forced from the trough.

#20

Didn't you just prove your belief that necessary cruelty does exist?
