Anand Giridharadas on Sanders' Victory in Nevada: 'A Wake Up Moment for the American Power Establishment'

I did not intend to compare Bloomberg to Goebbels, or label him with that odious name; only to comment on the continued mass repetition of a political narrative to influence the public, ie “Goebbels style”… I think Goebbels name and image as propaganda minister stands somewhat separate, even tho a nazi. My comment was meant to be more a story of propaganda from whatever source controlling the people/voters with a dominant repetitive message, and Joe G is the embodiment of that - very like flooding the airwaves with ones message, bought tith near bottomless resources. Sorry if that offended - the nazi analogy was not intended only the propaganda. Hope that makes sense.

Wonderfully said Maineac. I guess we were hopeful that we would eventually get our pound of flesh from the networks.

I’ve told my dog that over and over until she’s convinced.

Much better it should be a “Go back to sleep” moment. The power establishment has been causing enough trouble.

We may have to do something ourselves if they dump Joy instead of Matthews, like they did to other truth telling commentators. Ed Schultz and a few others.

How is the propaganda that Goebbels produced in support of the most murderous (Nazi) regime of the 20th century similar in any way to Bloomberg’s TV commercials??? I don’t think we are forgetting anything about what the Nazi or Goebbels did by not using Nazi analogies to describe the propaganda in Bloomberg’s ads.

Bernie reaches into people’s cores with sincerity and informed knowledge of their plight. The People get that. Let the People Vote. Damn the Debbie Wasserman Schultz of today.
BERNIE 2020!

Well for what it’s worth the NYT announced this morning that it is about to launch a propaganda smearing onslaught against Sanders to rival the multiyear effort of the Bezos Post.

It is about the whole of mainstream/lamestreet media that hasn’t been paying attention to the needs of the people and thought they could never loose their power positions along with their hired pundits who they pay handsomely to not recognize the people of America.

These conglomerates need to be broken up and power given back to the people and ownership to the people and more rules governing people who get license for our airwaves.

A couple of more primary’s and the voters will be paying attention where it is due. That will help to fend off some of the slander coming Bernie’s way.

That is why the down ballot votes are so important and I believe all of Sanders people realize that. The repugs have been in our face so lawless and cruel that so many should be replaced and dems take control of the senate and remain control of the house and get the President Sanders.

No it will not be easy with too many so called moderates which really lean right and our paid by the oligarchs of the world.

Don’t we need here in the Senate?

They have all been on the same page, haven’t they. Might as well add CNN to the Bernie beraters as they have earned their stripes too.

“I don’t think we are forgetting anything about what the Nazi or Goebbels did by not using Nazi analogies to describe the propaganda in Bloomberg’s ads.”

It is not the content that I speak to. It is the perfection of mass propaganda aimed at a vulnerable population, the repetitiveness that becomes the new norm, the believable. The vastness of Bloomberg’s wealth with control of the airwaves is a dangerous precedent, whether he relays truths or lies.
It is not comparing Goebbels to Nazis that is the point here, his name is synonymous with the art of mass propaganda. I speak of the ability to buy the office of the presidency without being fully vetted in multiple debates.

Some of those MSNBC and CNN pundits may understand why people are voting for Bernie.
But they also know where their paycheck comes from,if they want to keep their job, they have to be loyal to their bosses.
It would be refreshing to see just one of them say on the air…“I quit, my paycheck is not worth selling my soul while I’m a part of this country going from a democracy into fascism.”

Bloomberg has claimed he’ll spend a buttload on whoever the eventual d-party nominee is.

So Bernie can tell Bloomberg not to, but in the end it’s mike’s to spend as he sees fit.

And lets make sure he is well protected. He is the embodyment of hope for the people.

Except when it seemed like she orchestrated the ‘Bernie doesn’t think a woman can be president’ bullshit. Think about it. If she didn’t orchestrate the leak wouldn’t she have fired the person who did on her staff for breaking ranks from planned strategy? Given opportunity to smooth it ovcer she did the opposite with Chuck Todd at the debate. She is a capitalist/politician to her bones. Still I agree she is the next best candidate.

“Nazism was a movement of the Right”

‘Right’ and ‘Left’ are often too superficial to describe regimes and ideologies. The ‘National Socialist German Workers Party’ as led by Adolf Hitler in Germany continued and expanded authoritarian tendencies that had arisen in a polity that was supposedly a constitutional democracy. (Prior to the establishment of Hitler’s dictatorship, the previous two governments had ruled largely by Presidential decree, with the national legislature rarely sitting.)

Once The ‘National Socialists’ and Hitler had effectively sidelined the Constitution, the German state moved towards a form of ‘absolutism’, with the ‘Fuhrer/leader’ being all powerful and the Party in effect becoming the state. As far as how power was held an exercised, Hitler’s regime can be likened to the Stalinist Soviet Union, China under Mao or the Kims of Nth Korea, which however are not termed ‘rightist’ primarily because of their economic policies.

In economic policy the ‘National Socialists’ were influenced by Mussolini’s ‘Fascist’ movement which in turn was informed by the economic and social theories of ‘Corporatism’ which posited a ‘Third Way’ between ‘Capitalism’ and ‘Socialism/Communism’. Read about it here: 'Corporatism and the Ghost of the ‘Third Way’.

Whether ‘National Socialism’ or ‘Fascism’ constituted a move to the ‘Right’ or the ‘Left’ in the polities that they arose in, is ultimately not really too informative as to the actual nature of the regimes.
