As GOP Push Hard for Patriot Act Renewal, Critics Demand End to Mass Surveillance Provision

Nadia Prupis, staff writer

As Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) introduced a bill Tuesday night that would reauthorize through 2020 a controversial Patriot Act provision allowing unwarranted government surveillance, Democratic opponents and civil liberties advocates are demanding an end to the NSA's expansive spying operations.

The provision, Section 215, which gives the NSA legal justification to conduct bulk phone records collection, is set to expire June 1.

What would we have if we didn't have these slimeball Republicans working against our best interests?

Oh yeah, we would have slimeball Democrats working against our best interests.

#3

We already do. We have slimeball Democrats urging renewal of the Patriot Act "except for" this or that. The Patriot Act should not be renewed. Not any of it should be renewed. It is bad law. It was always bad law. It is an attack on civil society. It is an attack on humanity. Kill it or let it die.

We have to stop electing globalists and austerity fanatics. And religious fanatics. Together they are despotism and tyranny writ large. Think of Bruce Bueno De Mesquite.working with the NSA data gatherers. Government is about to push us into all wireless communications. They will be able to monitor everything real time. Orwell would have been shocked at what is happening.

We have to stop voting for either the Republicans or the Democrats. They are one and the same. They both voted in the Patriot Act and they will vote to keep is in effect. Don't you feel more secure knowing that the government really cares about you, and wants you to be safe? Too bad they are not in the least interested in what you think our nation should be. No one in Congress on either side of the rail-------(is there still that division in Congress since the two melded into one?) gives a damn for what you say unless you include a really large 'donation' with your request.

Don't worry. Big brother is watching you everywhere you go. You are safe--but watch out that you don't do anything that he might not like---like thinking for yourself. Watch the TV and believe the 'news'. All will be well.

As long as the GOP pushes for this, they best not complain about erosion of the Constitution, or overarching and intrusive government or else they'd be some serious in-your-face hypocrites. If they reauthorize it, they will no longer have any standing to complain about erosion of the Constitution, or overarching and intrusive government. You can't complain about erosion of the Constitution, or overarching and intrusive government on the one hand while creating exactly that with the other without being a total hypocrite and reauthorizing the Patriot Act will be doing exactly that! So, dudes, push this? Then hush.... I don't want to hear their trite no more.

When a muppet mouthed hillbilly from Kentucky is leading the charge in the Senate, woe to the country.

John Roberts helped get Bush selected President by the Supreme Court. As a thank you Bush selected Roberts Chief Justice and in charge of the FISA court. Combined with the Patriot Act the President could send any person of choice to an off-shore torture site. Remember what they say is always the opposite of the words they use.
