Let’s see…state of Texas…one of the highest rates of soil, water, and air pollution in the nation; highest number of executions in U.S., sixth highest poverty rate (16.2% and Mississippi is #1 at 20.1%); highest incarceration in nation at over 225,000 (at a rate of over 1,130 per 100,000 pop.; (California is #2 at 219,000); sixth highest birth rate - 70% (per 1,000 women between 15 - 44); second highest number of residents receiving supplemental nutrition assistance (food stamps) at over 3.8 million (California is #1); several cities in Texas (Houston, El Paso, e.g.) are in the top 50 for highest crime rates; minimum wage rate of $7.25/hr ($2.13 per hour for workers eligible for tips); Texas, the second largest state by population, also ranked second by total millionaires, with 490,634 millionaire households (as of 1/20/16); #27 in education quality (grade of C- or 69% by Education Week). And the Republicant governors and state legislatures after the Ann Richards (D) era have been instrumental in taking the state of Texas to all-time lows when it comes to overall quality of life. The state has already and will continue to pay dearly for its attack on Planned Parenthood, women, and their families. Just what is there to like about Texas, really?
