Attorney General Jeff Sessions Has Just Doubled Down on the Immoral, Racist, and Counterproductive War on Drugs

Udi Ofer

Attorney General Jeff Sessions knows that the United States is the world’s leading incarcerator. We imprison more people than any other nation in the world. But apparently he likes that distinction because he just doubled down on it, guaranteeing that more people will be locked up for drug offenses in America’s federal prisons.

War on Drugs, started as a Political Ploy by the Nixon Administration to neutralize the Black Vote and the Anti-War Movement, Continues and Grows, today because the DNC wouldn't get the hell out of Bernie's (and Our) way, and therefore handed the Presidency to Trump.

... and across the street we're looking at the FCC lying through Ajit Pai dismantling Net Neutrality for all the internet is worth - so bad is the situation that the Electronic Frontier Foundation has set up a complaints page.

How do republican lies become the truth? Fox News.

Shhh. Let's not pay attention to that, let's all pay attention to this whole Comey scandal that will likely not go anywhere.

Amen.

"You want to know what this (drug war) was really all about? The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I'm saying? We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."---John Ehrlichman

Sessions is not the racist, sexist, meddling, lying, propagandizing fascist like H. Anslinger, #withfewexceptions.

If we're on the side of science, logic, decency and the humane why do we continue to lose ground to the superstitious, stupid, corrupt and inhumane?

Good question. The 1% benefits from and pushes the Drug War.
They own/invest in:

  • Big Pharma

  • Alcohol/Tobacco (Trump Vodka anyone? certainly not his alcoholic dead brother)

  • Private prison/jails

  • Drug testing facilities and technologies

  • MIC. They MIC is closely connected to the Drug War. Also, well known that the Drug War veterans and military share info on street war strategies. Program 1033? It goes deep.

Oh, and that Obama, the sellout who never did anything good was also responsible for the beginning evisceration of the 1033 Program, particularly after the police over-reach in Ferguson and elsewhere. With Sessions, it will be back to local/state police militarization on overdrive.

Like this officer explains (my translation in italics/parenths): "If cops are stripped of the safety equipment (over-hyped military weaponry, eavesdropping tech, and big wheely things that take out houses and other toys) and less lethal devices used for crowd control (so still kills you, but doesn't hurt so badly?) and other enforcement efforts (that covers everything else), the scene on the street (blacks in urban areas) can quickly become dangerous."
