Describing the austerity policies that European creditors have imposed on Greece as an "abysmal failure," progressive presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Wednesday chastised the so-called Troika—the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Central Bank (ECB), and the European Commission—for inflicting severe "economic pain and suffering" on the Greek people.
Pres. Obama, " Nothing to see here, folks. Move along. ". This is just a little dress rehearsal, really, correct Pres. Obama? The real tragedy will commence when the marquee lights up and the curtains are lifted on, Death By A Thousand Cuts: An American Tragedy Foretold.
What Obama neglects to point out is the complicity of the US government and corporations in causing the Greek crisis. Goldman Sachs helped to set up the complex derivative scheme that masked Greece's shaky finances when it was accepted into the eurozone. And Obama and Geithner in 2009 pushed the IMF to prop up Greek banks during the global financial crisis in 2009 - a crisis caused by the corrupt practices of Wall Street firms and their European accomplices. Once again, Bernie Sanders' integrity is in sharp contrast to the Obama-Clinton crowd.
It is reductionist and jingoistic to say this is only the fault of banks, while at the same time ignoring climate change and overpopulation.
At some point the politics of the left have to wake up and include both realities. Or not, and the process will continue until most people starve to death.
Bernie is sounding better all the time.
Bernie is making now the same argument against IMF loan sharks that
Communist Party of Greece (KKE) and All Workers Militant Front (PAME)
have been making from months. Will any Democrats join him? (crickets)
