Biden's $1.9 Trillion Relief Plan: $400 Unemployment Boost, $1,400 Checks, and Billions in Additional Aid

Well, there’s plenty of goalpost moving to go around for everyone on this topic:

Biden’s proposal matches exactly what Sanders, who will be Budget Committee Chair, was requesting:

Mr. Sanders said in the interview that he wanted an initial, emergency stimulus package to be “big.” He thinks it must include an additional $1,400 in direct payments for adults and children, on top of the $600 that Congress just passed,

What if Biden’s proposal was tailored exactly to the amount progressives wanted to add to their own proposals barely over a week ago?

2021 America still hasn’t got public health insurance. Hey, at least you’re getting a check for 1400 bucks. Almost didn’t even get that.

I will believe it when I see it.

On Dec. 27, 2020, Trump signed the economic stimulus bill that authorized the $600 checks. Then on Jan. 4, 2021, Biden told a Georgia rally that if they voted for Ossoff and Warnock, and the Senate went Democratic, then the $2,000 checks would be sent out ASAP. Watch Biden say this here, at about mark 39:00.

If Biden meant $1,400 checks, why did he say $2,000? Looks like bait-and-switch to me.

Whether it be $1400 or $2000, I find the imprecision of language so early in the game a worrying sign. There should not have to be a questioning of intent.

I did look it up before the election----and both Dems running in Georgia support the Biden proposal----public option----dropping Medicare to 60. This is just the long way to single payer-at some point maybe people will realize the scam.

That $15 an hour nonsense may have made sense when it was first proposed, about ten years ago. But now it is sorely lacking, a day late if you will, and many dollars short.
Working a 40 hour week, $15 and hour is just 30 thousand dollars.
But hey, 30 thousand a year might actually be something in a third world country…oh…wait…

I made that very same point over on RawStory. I was of course called a commie.
He has said $2000 a few times now, no caveats about it including the $600 already sent out.
The messaging here for Biden and the incoming democratic congress is terrible.

That tells you that the current proposal is not what the dems want, because they know the GOP and blue dog dems will negotiate it down to about half, which is where the dems really want it to be, if it can’t be zero.

You beat me to that one. The Dems still haven’t figured out how to negotiate.
When you need 10, you ask for twenty, hope for get fifteen, and settle for 10. You don’t ask for ten, with the expectation of only getting 7, and praying you get 5, if you get anything at all.
It reminds me of an old poker players saying. If you’re looking around the table wondering who the sucker is, it’s probably you.
Yup, it’s us.

Tucker Swanson McNear Carlson is an evil establishment fake populist who lies on a daily basis. Even when he had tried to be a little bit sincere just for once - when admitting that Biden had won the election - he backpaddled as soon as his deluded viewers switched to Newsmax and/or OAN because for a single time he for hadn‘t told them what they wanted to hear …

After all, his grift is all about the money, who cares that he and his channel - for decades now - has polarized the public and led the minds of their viewers down the rabbit hole of an “alternate fact” reality … Definitely not him!

Guess it‘s no coincidence that Tucker rhymes with mother*** …

The shit show has been on going for years. Let’s hope some good things come our way over the next four.
Right now we should be worrying more about the crazies on the right. Especially if you live in a populated area.

This is typical Obama admin capitulation.
If you need $10, ask for $9, end up with $5, and blame the other side.

Republicans are not going to agree to $15 an hour and a free Covid handout. 4 years ago the Dems opposed $15 minimum wage.

A-holes at WAPO are already blathering about how this ‘bold plan’ is much bigger than Obama’s handout to the wealthy. As if this is going to breeze through approval.

2016-42% of workers making under $15-------I don’t think someone making $7.25 would call this nonsense. And as Biden pointed out Florida just passed $15--------

Like we had a choice of who to vote for??

They know how to negotiate just fine - once you accept the fact that they just aren’t negotiating for you or me - they are negotiating for their donors.

Lol. I read your comment after posting mine.

Amen to that! They know exactly what they are doing.

I, too, voted for Greens and independents in years past. Slick Willie was abhorrent to me and I didn’t vote for him. I guess I just thought that being in 0.2% this year was not worth the possibility of another 4 years of Stephen Miller in the White House.
