Big Pharma's Lobbyist Blitz Against Covid-19 Vaccine Patent Waivers Denounced as 'Utterly Disgusting and Immoral'

Not implying that you are not aware.

There are generics you can get. To get a generic , the prescription has to be for “generic epinephrine injector”.
The fda has a rule that prohibits pharmacies from substitutions if the prescription says “epipen”.

@Caroline Thought you might be interested in my two latest books, only tangentially related to this topic, but maybe not, maybe nothing is tangential anymore ?

This one I just got this morning ~

The Physics of Climate Change (2021), by Lawrence Krauss.

  • I have quite the collection of both books and science journal articles on climate change, both past and present. It is actually frightening how many - we are not wealthy.
  • But I see a gem here - in two ways. One - the author. I have been waiting patiently all these years for people to drop what they’re doing and wade in to the climate crisis. Naomi Klein made the switch, but she is not a scientist. This is what I have been waiting for - a heavyweight like Dr. Krauss.
Two- I looked over the book, read its first chapter, on Charles David Keeling and the beginning of the CO2 curve we all are now aware of. Ultra concise - spot on - and elegant description of both the phenomena and the history - extremely high signal to noise ratio - best I have ever come across.
Lawrence M. Krauss

Prof. Lawrence M. Krauss is an internationally known theoretical physicist with wide research interests, including the interface between elementary particle physics and cosmology, where his studies include the early universe, the nature of dark matter, general relativity and neutrino astrophysics. He has investigated questions ranging from the nature of exploding stars to issues of the origin of all mass in the universe. He was born in New York City and moved shortly thereafter to Toronto, Canada, where he grew up. He received undergraduate degrees in both Mathematics and Physics at Carleton University. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1982), then joined the Harvard Society of Fellows (1982-85). He joined the faculty of the departments of Physics and Astronomy at Yale University as assistant professor in 1985, and associate professor in 1988. In 1993 he was named the Ambrose Swasey Professor of Physics, Professor of Astronomy, and Chairman of the department of Physics at Case Western Reserve University. He served in the latter position for 12 years, until 2005. During this period he built up the department, which was ranked among the top 20 Physics Graduate Research Programs in the country in a 2005 national ranking. Among the major new initiatives he spearheaded are included the creation of one of the top particle astrophysics experimental and theoretical programs in the US, and the creation of a groundbreaking Masters Program in Physics Entrepreneurship. In 2002, he was named Director of the Center for Education and Research in Cosmology and Astrophysics at Case.

In August 2008 Krauss took up his new post as Foundation Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration and Physics Department, and Inaugural Director of the Origins Project at Arizona State University . As planned, Origins will become a national center for research and outreach on origins issues, from the origins of the universe, to human origins, to the origins of consciousness and culture. It will also form a cross-cutting educational theme at ASU. In April of 2009, it hosted an Origins Symposium, bringing together some of the most well known scientists and public intellectuals in the world for both scientific discussions and public presentations. Over 5000 people attended the events directly, and many more watched the live webcasts from around the world.

Prof. Krauss is the author of over 300 scientific publications, as well as numerous popular articles on physics and astronomy. He is the recipient of numerous awards for his research and writing, including the Gravity Research Foundation First Prize Award (1984), and the Presidential Investigator Award (1986). In February 2000, in Washington D.C., Krauss was awarded the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s 1999-2000 Award for the Public Understanding of Science and Technology . Previous awardees include Carl Sagan (1995) and E.O. Wilson (1994). In 2001 he was awarded the Julius Edgar Lilienfeld Prize of the American Physical Society . The citation reads “For outstanding contributions to the understanding of the early universe, and extraordinary achievement in communicating the essence of physical science to the general public”. Previous awardees include Stephen W. Hawking (1999), and Kip S. Thorne (1996). In 2001 the American Institute of Physics awarded Krauss the Andrew Gemant Award , given annually to “a person who has made significant contributions to the cultural, artistic, or humanistic dimensions of physics”. Previous awardees include Freeman Dyson, Steven Weinberg, and Stephen Hawking. He was also awarded the American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award in 2002 for his book “Atom”.

This one is on order - a new copy to support Ozzie Zehner of “Planet of the Humans”:

Green Illusions: The Dirty Secrets of Clean Energy and the Future of Environmentalism (Our Sustainable Future) (2012), by Ozzie Zehner, University of Nebraska Press.

  • I liked the writeup - interesting new angles I think, and I like Ozzie Zehner.

The newest book out on greenwashing is “Bright Green Lies”, but I am leery, despite the endorsement of Jeff Gibbs. The documentary was costly, not initially free as was “Planet of the Humans”, and the book is written by an accomplished author - but I see he has twenty-five previous books - always a red flag for me. And it just seems like cashing in on “Planet”. So I’ll go with Ozzie - plain and simple - instinctive !

=============

From what I can see - pretty much the entire crowd of politicians on the world stage need badly to be replaced - for those now in power to just leave - for all the good they have been doing.

Yeah, Big Bob,but I would hope like hell that I am proven wrong!

You would think that the Big Pharm people would realize that the best way to beat back any attempt to break their patents is to supply the world with the vaccine that it needs. They have already made billions from their vaccines. It won’t hurt them to forgo another billion.

Most of the comments above point to the simple fact that we have a capitalist economy and market place.
Caring, sharing, and charity belong to a different reality. A different system.
We still do not have definitive answers about where this virus came from, why some of the privileged get specialized medication, how the non-immunized fare against the pandemic, etc.

When ads are run on drugs, many times they have addendums that offer price reduction, help, and then there are subsidies.

Yeah, I’ve seen a few reports about this vaccine, and I wish them luck, but don’t be surprised if the medical monitoring agencies try to derail their efforts. The same thing happened to a PhD medical researcher who discovered a cure for certain cancers. He cured quite a few patients, and they even testified on his behalf, to no avail.

heard from our contacts in pharma they were going to throw many briefcases out there for this one. second only to M4A.

the briefcase theory still intact.

let’s hope the research side has some influence for once on these companies. several scientists we work with are bueno pissed off at this development. but the anticipation right now is that this virus is going to need annual/semi-annual boosters, and that’s going to be an epic cash cow; that’s what’s being fought over. Otherwise, they probably wouldn’t care if it was a one off.

tells you quite a bit about pharma’s assessment of covid, doesn’t it.

Is it immoral to drain a persons swimming pool to quench the thirst of thousands. The fact there is even one person alive who thinks this is immoral is positive proof itself that capitalism is the real pandemic and needs to be eradicated. These Pharma and defense and petroleum lobbyists need to have their taxes raised to 500,000% for every dollar they earn, call it the price of doing business. Only non profit groups could survive that.

The costs are already distributed to the taxpayer, we paid them billions to develop these vaccines. Only the profits are privatized. The same goes for all groundbreaking drugs, for nuclear energy, petroleum, defense, etc. etc. etc.

The propagandists and ideologues of capital, proclaim their love of “science!”, and they use “science!” as a bludgeon to silence any who question their authority or legitimacy.

And yet they simply ignore the science of ecology, which you have just encapsulated one of ecology’s basic laws. Your statement applies to the social economic and political systems that are the context of this article. But your statement applies more broadly to all living systems. Perhaps to all systems in the universe – they ignore laws of thermodynamics with their rank profligacy of energy and ecology wastage, so their claims to “science!” again ring hollow.

But certainly within the science of ecology, applying your basic truth would completely transform activity within “the economy.” Their “science!” serves only the corporate colonizers, as we can see blatantly here now with drugs and medicine and health and welfare, but as we can also see throughout all aspects of their financial and economic activity.

A particularly egregious example of big money corrupting politics, which if enacted by their greed will result in the unnecessary deaths of tens of millions.

Every two years offers up the chance to “FIRE THE HOUSE!” Vote against every incumbent and vote for 3rd party if it is available. You do not even have to be a member of a party to run so any civic-minded person should throw their hat in the ring while we “FIRE THE HOUSE!” and get rid of every damned one of them.

Has anybody learned yet what is going on here? It’s call unbridled laize’ fare capitalism. Wherin, the rich manipulate the economy with their vast wealth at the expense of everyone else. This has been going on for centuries. I think someone from Canada came up with a book called “The Shock Doctrine” very interesting reading. We are there again.

It’s called capitalism. So we best shut up.
