“Facebook is absolutely an out-of-control monopoly”
Correct. Funded and abetted by an out-of-control moronic following. (Something akin to dump followers.)
Please sue Google, and Twitter too.
They all are evil and insidious monopolies that don’t deserve to be there. Technology like they implement is not rocket science, and they should have lots and lots of competition, but don’t. .
The multi billionaires still need to be taxed for direct covid relief
No ‘Facebook’ or ‘Google’ in China.
and even a capitalist government elsewhere is doing this: (!!!)
Facebook, Twitter & Google should be put out of business. There should be search engine alternatives to Google.
I never used facebook, as it seemed wrong to me from the start. How peculiar that so many people flocked to it—and how many regretted doing that I wonder. A kind of "unreasonable search and seizure, of humanity, done by a corporation who has morphed into an incredible hulk of disingenuousness : (
try DuckDuckGo. Good search engine and it doesn’t turn you into the product like Google does
Wonderful word you used Gloriana to depict the disingenuous workings of all social media.
“The first step to building trust on this issue will be for Biden to keep top executives, lobbyists, and consultants for Big Tech and other corporations out of his administration.”
Well then we’re Facefv€ked
Americans are under pressure from an early age to be stupid in order to be more popular. Politicians are often encouraged to run at first because they are popular. Reach on social media is influenced mostly by upvotes (or purchased followers)
What is wrong with this system, and how is it bad for society as a substitute for real face to face communication, and real world society as mostof us grew up with pre-internet, and especially the previous, non-social media centric, non-captured free Internet, before the widespread use of sockpuppets and the governments’ becoming obsessive about using it to suppress unstructured living discussions?
The men the American people admire most extravagantly are the most daring liars; the men they detest most violently are those who try to tell them the truth.

The most erroneous assumption is to the effect that the aim of public education is to fill the young of the species with knowledge and awaken their intelligence, and so make them fit to discharge the duties of citizenship in an enlightened and independent manner. Nothing could be further from the truth. The aim of public education is not to spread enlightenment at all; it is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality. That is its aim in the United States, whatever the pretensions of politicians, pedagogues and other such mountebanks, and that is its aim everywhere else.

Good start… now they just need to do the same thing for every other colluding monopoly player in every other sector of our economy.
Is there a sector of our economy remaining that isn’t controlled by a pack of behemoths??
Elementary school teacher of 30 years here: you hit the nail on the head.
I wish I could say the legal Cannabis industry but that would be duplicitous and naive.
You left out the worst of the worst, Amazon.
well you should know that according to our higher education accreditation orgs and teacher unions all around the world including here in the US the real cause of the huge mess in education today is a treaty that almost none of us have ever heard of. See ~http://www.eua.be/Libraries/higher-education/GATS_en.pdf - you may need to use the ~https://web.archive.org site to find it at this old URL, its still on their new site eua . eu but broken. because a war is going on against public education and this is the front lines. proof that the disinformation and misinformation is coming from the other side. the ones who want us to trust them are not trustworthy
These futuristic looking technologies often are the vectors of mankind’s oldest deepest and darkest sins.
So bad, in fact, that it is actually getting difficult to find what you are really looking for.
It’s worth a second look.
