These people have armies of consultants and advertising agencies promoting their no tax on me agenda. Even the evironmental movement in CA which is strong had to give Safeway and Bezos 10 cents per bag to “stop using plastic”. Of course Safeway still uses the plastic bags…but now they get a dime for them. Cost? .01 cents per bag. Huge profit item for the grocery stores. So if the environmentalists want the poor to pay a dime a bag for their groceries while transferring said money not to environmental causes but to corporate profits how are economic leftists going to do anything but spin their wheels. Maybe Bernie or Warren has a chance. We will see. America’s moral responsibility turned to ashes post WWII.

I think the California law prohibits the stores from keeping the money as profit. I believe they have to use it toward supplying reusable bags and encouraging the use of reusable bags

I’ll wait for WAPO Bozo to sign on … along with the other 580 or so. Seriously, the world teeters on the brink of destruction from both morons and environment and this is all CD can find for news?

Let them squabble over the spoils of their robbery

There is a book called the Ragged Trousered Philanthropists by which the author means us working people, not any liberal minded plutocratic oligarch

There is a section called the Great Money Trick which is worth the time to read

That is the crux of the problem

I can’t join these billionaires in calling for increased taxes on myself until I become a billionaire.

Which I’ve been planning to do, but haven’t got around to quite yet.

funny how those letters weren’t around much during the massive tax scam legislation.

oh well. I don’t blame them for trying to get on record. That sound of the guillotine’s gotta be getting louder.

Frank Clemente sez:
“The utter failure of the Trump-GOP tax cuts to live up to the promises of more jobs and higher wages has given the candidates an opening …”

English translation:
“The utter failure of the Trump-GOP tax cut propaganda to convince the rubes they’ll get more jobs and highers wages has …”

There was never any intent behind those fictional “promises”.

The subjects you mention often appear on CD.

I don’t think the letter is simply stating a wealth tax going to the general fund without tying it to certain outcomes.

They ended the letter with:

A wealth tax could help address the climate crisis, improve the economy, improve health outcomes, fairly create opportunity, and strengthen our democratic freedoms. Instituting a wealth tax is in the interest of our republic.

They explicitly did not mention the war machine. Most of the discretionary spending in the general fund goes to the war machine. Creating an arbitrary wealth tax would support the war machine.

Bernie has a specific proposal for a financial transaction tax (currently this industry is untaxed) that would explicitly go to make college free and retire student debt:

Tying taxation to specific benefits is much more progressive, dare I say democratic socialist.
