Canada's First Nations Push Back Against Centuries of Murder, Abuse and Neglect

Doreen Nicoll

Victors write the history books. They write versions that are often coloured by their perceptions and the image they want to portray. They hope that time will erase any trace of wrongdoing or injustices imposed on others. But, they forget that memories are long and passed from generation to generation. They forget that some bystanders will not be silenced or stopped until justice is served.

5 for 5 is quite correct . It was genocide. There is no other word that can be used to describe it. Nor was it genocide via "Best intentions" as some would like to pretend, that being "The Goal was never Genocide but a series of poor policy decisions gives the appearance of Genocide". It was all very deliberate.

This does not mean that every member of Government, every political leader and church leader and every member of the Public wished to see the First Nations peoples extermineted as there were many who wanted nothing of the sort. It means that there were always groups of people who had that as an agenda no matter their public words on the matter.
