Caribbean Islands Pleaded for Climate Action. Hurricane Irma Shows Why

Caribbean Islands Pleaded for Climate Action. Hurricane Irma Shows Why.

Julia Conley, staff writer

Some of the small Caribbean islands that are expected to suffer the most damage from Hurricane Irma have had some of the loudest voices in recent months regarding the effects of climate change—and the harm being done by leaders including President Donald Trump, who withdrew the United States from the Paris climate accord in June.

Images of the storm's destruction on St. Martin, Anguilla, and Barbuda on Wednesday confirmed many Caribbean leaders' concerns:

Until we admit to the real problem, too many people, this will only get worse and worse.

Oh well… the silver lining in this is all the rich white Caribbean-cruising Jimmy Buffet wannabes seeing their yachts get destroyed… Of course many of them can just go buy a new one like I go out and get a growler of beer. This will be a big boon to the boat-building business…

True, one has to wonder how bad it will have to get before the climate deniers admit they have been wrong!

Stop begging USA & Rothschild’s World Bank for help adapting to Climate Change. They haven’t and won’t. BRICS is the one they need to turn to. They will release funds for that purpose.

If half of Texas (except for the clown car) starts to plead for climate action after Harvey, and if half of Florida (again, clown car excepted) starts to plead for climate action next week after Irma, then here’s what the federal government can do anytime it feels like it (except they’re clowns, of course**):

  1. displace fossil fuels in the following key areas:

1a. fossil fuel heating to mostly solar with thermal storage on every building. Prototype cost, $15k, CHEAP!

1b. Electricity generation at night, probably using thermal storage but other renewable competitors are out there.

1c. Urban automobile/freeway transit is a joke anyway. I recommend an above-grade system of gondolas suspended from rails and/or from cables. It would solve the “last mile” problem from your garage to the subway platform, solve rush hour, use 90% less electricity (and no gasoline at all). Cost: $200 million to start it. Savings: about 90% over our car/freeway system, an incredible bargain and everybody gets a free hour of their day released for other things like playing bad computer games.

  1. We don’t want a massive runaway Arctic methane release. That will spike greenhouse gas levels to maybe 1000 ppm of CO2 (equivalent). How big was that hurricane, again? So, we need to transfer heat out of the top 30 meters of the Arctic Ocean to the Arctic winter air. Cost about $1B/year, but it’s a bargain!

  2. We need to sequester hundreds of gigatons of carbon. Organic methods are in the running.

  3. We need to protect five million species from extinction. Extinction is forever, and we’re not here to eat up what our children need for their survival, nor do we wantonly destroy this gift.

** I defend anyone’s right to deliver a solemn speech in an orange fright wig.

To understand how the world unnecessarily got to this point, watch this. It is very well done. Using ethanol instead of petroleum, as Henry Ford wanted all of the disasters could have been avoided and can, if done properly using regenerative growing methods, reverse global warming.

What we all can do in the meantime is eat organic and grass fed produce, dairy, meat and eggs.
You and the planet will be healthier.

On Wednesday afternoon, Irma was battering the Caribbean, destroying about 90 percent of the structures and vehicles on Barbuda, officials said.

It’s too bad Cuba is always blocked out of the news. I’d like to get reports back on what happens there.

Hurricane Season 2017 is Jun 1, 2017 – Nov 30, 2017. Way too long to go.

It’s not to many people. It’s too little regulation on 70 companies.

Hurricane Irma: Catastrophic Intensity

The link between global warming and the catastrophic intensity of hurricanes.

Trump declares the Paris accord, “a bad deal” for Americans. These catastrophic hurricanes from heated ocean waters, and massive forest fires from drought, may convince some of the Trump supporters that having a not to bright, corporate friendly, climate change deniers, as President is, “a bad deal” for Americans.

Yes, the revolutionary socialists Temer, Putin, Modi, Xi and especially the uncle Tom Zuma will save us!

Based on the current forecast track, Cuba and Haiti and the DR will be on the weak left side of the storm. So they will likely do all right. the lower Bahamas, upper Florida Cays and Miami will be on the strong right side with possible catastrophic results. But yes, even when Cuba is devastated, they get ignored - which is a shame, becasue with past hurricanes, their preparation before and recovery afterward are a model for rest of the world.

United Nations Climate Change Conferences, from 1995 Berlin to 2017 Bonn. It just seems like the same old song and dance, like Kyoto 192 nations sign the treaty, and the U.S.of A. does not, and Canada pulls out. Maybe we should listen, and learn from Tracy Chapman’s song “New Beginning.” If anything the intro with the didgeridoo on “New Beginning” will give ya a good feeling.

Not sure there is a weak side to this one
When it comes to the poor
Did you see that footage

Somebody said that as the worlds greatest producer of greenhouse gases, America is responsible for most global warming. We therefore owe environmental refugees the home they lost as a result of it.

Don’t blame imperialism.
Don’t blame capitalism.
Gawd is doing this!

Climate Change Unleashes "Fire and Fury" on the United States

All hurricanes have a strong side and a weak side - the winds rotate counterclockwise, so the right side (facing the storm track direction) gets the storms speed added to its cyclonic wind speed, the left side gets the storm speed subtracted from the cyclonic speed. In the case of this storms, it makes a 50 mph wind speed difference between the right (north) side and the left (south) side. So all the the Greater Antilles are looking good - especially since the storm is tracking further north. But the Bahamas will be on the strong side and considering how low-lying the islands are (most 20 ft or less) and the storm surge amplification from the shallow Bahama banks - they are in for a catastrophe. Ideally all the islands need to be evacuated - but how do you evacuate all the poor poeple of Nassau or Freeport?

Of course you are right, given that Gawd’s real name is Mother Nature, and yes She IS doing this.

One of Her natural laws (which, like Her Law of Gravity, has been in effect since Her ‘Big Bang’ 14 Billion years ago and cannot be broken) is that carbon dioxide in Her earth’s atmosphere absorbs a little of the heat reflected from the surface of the earth and prevents it from radiating out into space, so the more CO2 in the atmosphere the warmer things get overall.  The warmer the atmosphere, the warmer the ocean, and the warmer the ocean the more water that evaporates.  The more water vapor in the atmosphere, the more energy that gets released when it condenses into rain, making storms – including hurricanes – more powerful.  And of course that extra water that condenses also falls (due to Gawd’s Law of Gravity, mentioned above) as extra rain.  Open-minded investigators (generally known as scientists) have determined to the best of their ability that during the last 250 years or so we humans have burned enough of the oil and coal that Mother Nature stored beneath the surface of her earth during the preceding several millions of years that we have increased the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere enough to have caused measurable warming thereof.

Another of Gawd’s immutable laws of physics (or physical chemistry) is that methane absorbs about 40 times as much heat as carbon dioxide, and the processing of shale oil releases even more CH4 than the refining of “regular” oil.  This, along with the extra methane released by human agriculture (such as in cow farts and also tractor exhaust) and the melting of Arctic permafrost (caused by the overall warming of the earth as described above) has many open-minded investigators fearing that we may have already provided Gawd with so much atmospheric pollution that She has begun getting even with us for ignoring our obligation to be good stewards of Her earth, and may even be so disgusted with our deliberately ignoring Her laws as to wipe us out entirely.

But not to worry, the RePooplicans have an answer to this rising tide of Climate Change facts —
King Canute for Congress, 2018!!
