Charter schools have become a fetish of both Democratic and Republican political establishments, but local news reports continue to drip, drip a constant stream of stories of charter schools doing bad stuff that our tax dollars fund.

It would be really great if the critics of "charter schools" would begin to differentiate between public charter and private charter schools. There actually ARE places in the U.S. where there are creative, PUBLIC charter schools which are awesome.
There are also some private charter schools operating as a public charter school. This author explained how that works on a previous article here on CD. The problem is "charter" and how it is designed without safeguards for education and the children they serve.
