Hard to get a handle on this. It seems the countries with the greatest level of greed and the neofascist have by far the most cases and worse outcomes. It is reasonable they would horde the supply. Is the UN dude saying the fat cats should kick in 9 trill to give to big pharma/vac fat cats which are essentially the same?

They go through a lifetime of training to be able to believe their ideology about how society runs best when looters run it.
Reality kicks them in the face, and they still can’t see it.
It’s so obvious that what we need is global sharing. You can’t stop a global pandemic in one place, you have to stop it in all places.
But they literally can’t imagine a world of sharing, it is simply unthinkable after their lifetime of training. And you’d have to take something away from the looters! Please, be realistic!
They can’t get their ideology out of their heads, because their heads are stuck up their own a%%es.

Not exactly. The $9T figure is the estimated global economic cost of totally screwing everything up as they are doing. The wealth tax would be much lower than $9T, and would go toward providing equitable access to the vaccines everywhere for everyone explicitly including countries and persons who cannot pay for it.
But yes, as near as i can tell from his comments, he’s talking about funneling that money from that wealth tax to the PhARMA corporations, not “taking” “their” patented right to loot away from them by bypassing their “ownership” of “rights” to sell the vaccines.

I think that vaccine production will continue well past the point where doses will exceed everyone of the citizens of the countries making the vaccines, and at that point they will be shared freely throughout the world … ETA 3 months … if we are to prevent new variants from spreading back to those wealthy nations, vaccinating the world will be a priority … also, the hoarding of wealth has been severely uneven following the K-shaped recovery …

The “UN guy” suggested a wealth, or solidarity tax. Perhaps calling it a solidarity tax will help the wealthiest people accept fact that they are expected to pay this tax on profits made during pandemic, when many millions of people in the world were dying & suffering hardships? You know, people not able to hop on their yacht & sail away from the virus & those infected folks back home. Calling it a “Solidarity Tax” could feed their gold-encrusted egos & allow them to feel that they “helped the world overcome the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Or, we could just call it the “Greedy Pigs Tax” & tell them that either way, they need to pay it ~ for the world of people who pay for their life of excess, 1 way or another.
They can & should pay for rest of world to get vaccinated & recover from global pandemic poverty.
The majority of super-rich have no trouble taking more than their fair share of global wealth & don’t see any need for them to give anything back to global community when they see pain & suffering. We should help them see that need & if not willing, then a big tax on profits made during pandemic times is in order. They don’t want to pay anything for the luxury of outsized wealth they take for granted, that they think they deserve & ‘earned’ the right to have, somehow. (As if rest of us just didn’t try hard enuff?!) In truth, most just got lucky & plenty of people who work their butts off daily, did not.
Now the hard part:
Who will collect these taxed dollars from all over, and how to do that??
How to make sure they pay that money, without it dragging out forever & a day??!

The american government CAN provide 15 billion vaccine doses.
Even at $20 / dose, the cost is only 300 Billion dollars.
The ‘we are sorry for releasing’ this into Chicago, China and Seattle from Fort Dietrick, Maryland.
Notice, outside air reduces transmission events. Crack a window open a bit.
