Nobody's ready yet to cut Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton any slack, least of all Bernie Sanders, who says he questions if she's "prepared to take on the billionaire class.” Newly published - and stunningly revealing - records of the top contributors for them both bear him out. While Sanders' money comes almost exclusively from unions, Clinton's comes solely from Wall Street and other fat cats. Notes Sanders, "It's not what she says, it's what she does."
Hillary is already countering the Sanders attack. She says she wants to eliminate undisclosed money, not any disclosed money, not public funding, just dark money. For that she receives MSNBC accolades from their hosts. Does this mean that Hillary will disarm and disclose all of her dark money donors? It seems a natural question to ask. But there is no follow up which would try to pin her down. Hillary poses, she says she wants this even if it takes an amendment a to the Constitutiocn. .Bravo Hillary but fat chance in a system as qdysfunctional as ours that this will ever happen. Hillary knows that. Still she gains points for her rhetorical flourish,. Another example to me or her triangulation.
If Sanders were serious about this issue, he would loudly compare Hillary's current rhetoric to that used by W for the 2000 election and Obama for 2008.
But in order to do so, Barney would have to do what I recommended for Elizabeth Warren and get away from the Democratic Party.
Hillary is the best candidate because she has enormous amounts of wealth and power.
In order to keep our stores stocked and to allow people to continue breeding without responsibility, in order to maintain a sentimentality about religion and the dogmas of heterosexism, we need someone with a lot of wealth and power.
The only difference between the left and the right in the US is the amount of times they talk about Jesus.
So what should Bernie do? Compete with Jill Stein of the Green party? Is it possible for an independent to mount a credible campaign for president?
The Amerikan Empire has never belonged to the 99%; especially, if you define a democracy as a Republic where all the people can participate meaningfully, in the political power of the state. If you follow the $ for the last 100 years, it is not Clinton vs. Sanders, that is the dog and pony show for the masses, but the .01% Oligarchs, Plutocrats, Wall Street, and international banksters vs. the 99.9% that have absolutely no political power. Yeah, follow the $ and that is where it will lead you!
Is it possible for Barney to mount a credible campaign for President within the Democratic Party?
Possible yes but forget the debates, the coverage or anything but the sidelines while the left call you a "spoiler" and condemn you for everything from helping the repugs to not being perfect on every issue. We can nit-pic, criticize endlessly and beat our chests, we can run someone better with a united front backing them or we can back Sanders who will at very least alter the conversation -- in fact, he already has as Hillary panders to the left saying whatever she thinks will get votes. We no campaign platforms vanish like smoke the day the election is over. Sanders has a much better record and would be better than anyone else running -- and has a better chance if we make it so instead of being unrelenting, self defeating utopian critics.
Abby, It's not about the Money --- but the EMPIRE!
YES! Public knowledge of the utter corruption of money in the
political sleaze of this 2016 campaign is vastly healthy to
understand the nature of the actual Disguised Global Capitalist
Empire that now has 'captured', controls, rules, and fully “Occupies”
our former country:
Opening the public discussion of the massive level of corrupting
cash in this presidential campaign (and all other Congressional
campaigns) is great news in shedding light on the Disguised Global
Capitalist EMPIRE that has 'captured' and now fully "Occupies"
our former country --- and which EMPIRE merely 'poses' as, and is
HQed in, the country formerly known as the United States of America,
now a Disguised Global Empire.
This is a refreshing, disinfecting, and cleansing bath of this 'Empire, Cancer of all our
Maladies' which the American people (now 'subjects' of the Empire and
not really citizens) deserve to know about the dual-party
Vichy-political facade of this disguised cancer of Global Empire that
has infected our body-politic, and which puts forward an equally
slimy slate of neocon 'R' Vichy party puppets, and neoliberal-con 'D'
Vichy party puppets.
Sunlight on the Empire is great in exposing both Vichy parties, and even more so for exposing this Disguised Global Capitalist Empire --- which most public
intellectuals and academics of Empire-studies already fully
understand --- but which the American people have been deluded and
propagandized by the MSM not to know at all!
As Zygmunt Bauman hauntingly puts it, “In the case of an ailing social
order, the absence of an adequate diagnosis…is a crucial, perhaps
decisive, part of the disease.”13

"The U.S. state is a key point of condensation for pressures from
dominant groups around the world to resolve problems of global
capitalism and to secure the legitimacy of the system overall. In this
regard, “U.S.” imperialism refers to the use by transnational elites of
the U.S. state apparatus to continue to attempt to expand, defend, and
stabilize the global capitalist system. We are witness less to a
“U.S.” imperialism per se than to a global capitalist imperialism. We
face an EMPIRE of global capital, headquartered, for evident historical
reasons, in Washington." [Caps substituted for italics in original]
