I spend a lot of time out and about, and reading in coffee shops and such.
The citizenry that surrounds me is not comforting - it does not inspire confidence in the human enterprise.
The “Civic Intelligence” spoken of in Douglas Schuler’s article in this climate section is indeed a rare thing, as he himself seems to indicate.
Show me a corporation that goes to prison. Or dies (corporations being perpetual). Not a lot of risk depending on one’s investor base. Not very human at all.
