Court Ruling Threatens Consumer Protection Agency’s Independence

WASHINGTON - Note: Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled that the structure of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) is unconstitutional because its director isn’t sufficiently answerable to the president.

Elizabeth Warren single-handedly brought CFPB into existence, and the powers who opposed it torpedoed her attempt to steer it into functionality. She will have more of the same now, to prevent its evisceration. It will be very interesting to see whether she gets any support from leading Democrats, starting with Hillary Clinton.
