It seems reasonable that Turkey would want the members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to leave a 20-mile buffer from the Syrian border with Turkey. The SDF is a terrorist group. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/10/syrian-democratic-forces-191015080247945.html
File this under “Partially closing the barn door after the horse is stolen, the livestock is slaughtered, and the farmer is murdered.”
You’re kiddin’ right? The turks move in… not going to happen… next step Assad has been moving troops west for the past 2 days and will be trying to take Idlib. 2 front war. Barn door wide open…
We need to have the White House “cleaned out.” Congress?
Here’s an informed take on what is happening in Syria: https://consortiumnews.com/2019/10/16/everybody-betraying-everybody-in-syria/ From the article:
“The most vociferous voices in Washington for sticking by the Kurds in Syria come from several sources. First, from those who reflexively oppose any policy of Trump under any circumstances anywhere. Second, those interventionists who seek to maintain U.S. armed presence in the region at almost all costs — and the untiring U.S. global task in their eyes is never finished. Third, there are many who want to keep Israel strategically happy and empowered. The interventionist crowd in Washington wants the U.S. in Syria indefinitely as proof of our “credibility” to fight everybody’s war, and maintain American “leadership” — read hegemony — in the region. Sadly, the prolonged war agenda would not seem to do anybody in the region any good, including the U.S.”
First they’re freedom fighters against ISIS and now a terrorist group.
And of course the United States supports state terrorism.
Is this header in English? Maybe my meds are too strong today.
Informed take?? I’d call it American propaganda… did you read the Common Dreams article?
When you mention “reflexively oppose any policy of Trump” what do you think he is doing with Obama’s policies, such as his latest proposal of logging in our largest national forest? Oh we don’t need all those trees, climate change is a hoax, right?
#BREAKING: SDF Commander-in-Chief Mazlum Abdi says “we will also accept a ceasefire” [Qebûl dikin].
And after 5 days your guess is as good as mine?!
Now for a little fog of war:
Speaking live on Ronahi TV General Mazloum said that they accept the ceasefire which is for the active war zone Serêkanîyê (Ras al-Ain) & Girêsipî (Tal Abyad) and US is part if this. They do not accept withdrawal
On the Pence agreement on paper… it references the YPG, not SDF so… lots of misunderstandings… meanwhile the battles go on…
All three true, but you could also stick by’em by not bad mouthing the Russia/ICG brokered “deal.” Course, our media doesn’t explain it at all…all they say is the Russians have moved in. Typical.
For a while my mind was pondering if or not DT collaborated constructively (behind scenes) with the deal, this time not blabbing anything 'Is This Real? This Can't Be Real': Stunned Reaction to Unhinged Trump Letter to Erdoğan
Well, if he did, apparently now he must turn on those who speculated along these lines (MoA)…with this Bidenesque 20 mi crappola.
The SDF are as much “terrorists” as the Sandinistas, FMLN or the PFLP, FRETELIN or Sinn Fein were or are. In other words a better term is “freedom fighter”.
Gotta love those neo-tankies, formerly Stalinists, now Assadists-Erdoganists.
Why didn’t the US protect the Kurds in Afrin?
Oh, that’s right, because they don’t give a rat’s ass about the Kurds.
80-90 percent of the SDF consists of the Kurdish YPG. The rest are Syrian-Arab anti-ISIL, anti-Assad partisans.
According to United States Army Special Forces Commander General Raymond A. Thomas at the Aspen Security Forum in July 2017, the SDF is a PR-friendly name for the YPG, which Thomas personally suggested because the YPG is considered an arm of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is designated as a terrorist group by the Federal government of the United States.
They’re not anti-Assad anymore.
