I first heard of Danny Schecter as the news guy on a Boston FM station (unfortunately I’ve forgotten whether it was WBZ or WBCN) in 1968. He signed off each evening’s broadcast with this provocative tagline: “If you don’t like the news, go make some of your own.” It’s fitting that the award bearing his name goes this year to Ms. LaDuke, for whom I proudly voted in 2000, and who has never since given me cause for regret.
This is who should be POTUS…and elected in 2020…
Wow, Harvard was involved. O.K Harvard graduate more people like her and maybe this coulda- been- a- democratic -republic can make it after all! : )
Congratulations ro Winona LaDuke. Danny Schechter would be very pleased
her selection, I am sure. I sure do miss Danny, as well as Molly Ivins.
Another great journalist who was not afraid to call it the way she saw it, was Martha
Gellhorn, who absolutely loathed the false equivalency endemic to the rise of “objectivity” in journalism
