Dear Lawmakers, Please Hire Teachers as Education Aides—Not TFA Alumni

Steven Singer

Dear freshmen lawmakers,

We did it!

After a fiercely contested election, we have finally begun to turn the tide back toward progressive politics.

Midterms usually are sparsely attended, but this year we had an unprecedented turnout. A total of 23 states had double-digit percentage-point increases compared with their 1982-2014 midterm election averages.

And the result is one of the largest and most diverse groups of freshman Congresspeople ever!

As a (retired) second generation educator who felt called to the profession, I will simply say that one who never felt the calling (and ponied up) should have any say over education matters. Anyone who thinks their business acumen has any relevance is a dolt (or a money grubber).

I’m pretty sure WiseOwl was referring to teachers being hired who are not educated for that profession, or want to remain in the teaching profession for their careers.
I would be shocked if he/she was referring to parents or taxpayers.
