'Deeply, Deeply Dangerous': Outrage After British Soldiers Use Image of Corbyn Used for Target Practice

Eoin Higgins, staff writer

British soldiers in Kabul, Afghanistan, used an image of Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn as target practice, drawing criticism from United Kingdom progressives and triggering an internal investigation.

Video of the soldiers firing weapons at a large picture of Corbyn went viral early Wednesday morning.

Just goes to show how successful the effort to trivialize democracies has been. Russia and China have succeeded beyond, even their expectations.

The General claiming this as “unacceptable behaviour” is very much like those Police Chiefs claiming unacceptable behaviour when a wrongful action by one of his cops brought to light.

That it can come to this is INGRAINED and Systemic. Rot has infested the entire system. Violence and the willingness to visit it upon others is seen as a virtue. The reality is that rather than being unacceptable this mindset is both accepted and expected.

Just as members of the US military have become increasingly christian extremist ever since the draft ended, other nations’ miltaries have been similarly infected.

All of this makes the current idolisation of the military in British society even more questionable. We are encouraged to view every soldier as a hero, to contribute to military charities, to tolerate the presence of men and women in uniform at every kind of event, however appropriate, to regard every pound spent on the military as patriotic and to support every military adventure as valiant and beneficial to the nation whatever it might be. A critical and morally-balanced view of the military would be far more healthy, but has never been further from our grasp.

There is scientific evidence linking excessively loud noises (discharging guns) to brain damage.

It is “Deeply, Deeply, Dangerous and Disturbing” to imagine our safety and security is put in the hands of those most exposed to brain damaging devices.

China has proven that with the help of venal global industrialists and a pacified obedient populace, democracy is not necessary. In fact China is the world’s greatest argument against democracy. Never had it, never will. And, apparently the Chinese Han seem to like it that way.

Sad but true.

In China, as long as they have the latest I-phone, K-pop, or whatever more local version the government approves (Bei-pop?) high-speed trains to other cities, a job, and soon, a car, they really don’t care. This is what defines “freedom” to them. People who want to be free to speak and challenge the government’s control of idea are regarded by ordinary Han Chinese as mentally ill. Freedom? What kind of strange thing is that? If this “liberty” thing is so important, why can’t I find it on Amazon.

Indeed, if it is not available to buy on Amazon, it doesn’t exist.

Neoliberal techno-capitalism though its commodification of absolutely everything down to consciousness itself has rendered Democracy utterly quaint.

Everywhere around the former democracies of the world, fascism is ascendant…

Going China and democracy is drifting pretty far off the topic here. It used to be when people used people on their targets we brushed it off as a joke or a fad. Now I’m not so sure that it isn’t more serious since our military has been entrenched in forever war. A different mindset moves in in times of war. We no longer have a normal military. If forever war continues this will continue to devolve into mayhem. imo

We have to find a system where the profit of a successful countries output is invested not in making millionaires, but is put back into the pool of people equally.
How often is it when people profit, take it to themselves, and end up generous? No, they nearly always end up as power seekers or crooks of one shade or another. We should have a non money driven leadership.

Those soldiers should be championing Corbyn instead of making a horrible statement with weapons. The programming and propaganda seem to be as deep in Britain as in the U.S.

Kind of makes you wonder if Bernie or A-O-C’s pictures are hanging in some police or military firing range.

But first they had to crush pro-democracy protesters under tank treads in Tiananmen Square 30 years ago before the U.S. let them into the WTO. Coincidence? Or our future?

I thought US soldiers were idiots until I saw this video. Sheesh. It seems people forget what heroes of labor have won for us all in the past: weekends, 40 hour work week, unions, etc. Damn shame so many Trumptards and others across the world are so short-sighted.
