Delaware Rules Death Penalty Unconstitutional

Nika Knight, staff writer

In a landmark decision (pdf), the Delaware Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the state's death penalty law is unconstitutional.

The majority found that the state's death penalty violated the Sixth Amendment, as it allowed a judge to override a jury's recommendation of a life sentence and impose a death sentence instead.

Signs of civilization in Delaware! Remember what Howard Zinn wrote in 2007: "...if as Dostoyevsky said, 'The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons,' then what is one to say about the degree of civilization in a society that creates 'super max' prisons, Guantanamo Bay detention camps, and death chambers for fellow humans?"

The Evangelical Fundamentalist Christians love executions no matter if the "Innocent Project", or Sister Helen Prejean pleads with them to stop. I should know, my sister is an Evangelical Fundamentalist Christian. Their whole bases for their dreadful views is thousands of years ago desert stories. The old Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament. If we could make them unimportant, we could possibly eliminate the death penalty. Also, Europe drug companies stopped selling death drugs to Virginia this year. Virginia's response, passing, flying easily through both the state senate, and state reps, all the way to Governor Terry Mcauliffe's desk who veto it, was, The Electric Chair. Now that is evil!
