WASHINGTON - Thousands of people will converge on Washington, D.C., this spring as part of an unprecedented movement to demand a democracy that works for all Americans, one in which everyone has an equal voice and elected officials are accountable to the people, not the wealthy.
No, I expect this to merely be another gathering of the better off, for the better off, and we can put it to the beat of rock & roll. Another pep rally.
There has been no hint of an awakening in years. Democrats continue to preach that our corporate system is now so successful that everyone is able to work and there are jobs for all, therefore no need for poverty relief. Liberals continue to market to the middle class consumers and campaign donors (giving an occasional pat on the head to min. wage workers), ignoring the appalling consequences of our deregulated capitalism -- our poverty crisis. For 2016, Democrats present a redesigned package, same product.
