In “an unprecedented break” from tradition, Democrats in the US Senate are expected to challenge as many as eight of Donald Trump’s cabinet nominees, including Betsy DeVos for US Secretary of Education, according to a report by the Washington Post.
Yes, they could and should kill her nomination, for the kids as much as anything. What Duncan/Obama have done to education is a travesty and should be exposed for the rotten and corrupt programs they endorsed.
Charters and Standardized tests have hurt kids in public schools badly both by siphoning off money that should have gone to public schools and by forcing kids to live in fear of the test instead of learning and enjoying the school experience.
I am furious about this issue and they are cruel and ruthless to pursue it any further. DeVos and the whole charter school program should be thrown out and funds returned to public schools.
This shouldn't even be controversial. This woman doesn't even believe in public education. She shouldn't be allowed anywhere near it.
Could this be the end of Bipartsianship on Education Deform?
No. It will only be a hiatus. As soon as the Dems are back in power they'll once again take up their corporate masters' desire to privatize our education.
All currently serving Politicians, of the Dem/Rep stripe, have Campaign Contributions to lose if they buck the current trend to neutralize Public Education.
And attempting to secure Campaign contributions are what they spend most of their time doing.
Heard it from my own Congressman's mouth on John Oliver.
Of course, he was confessing now, as he was declining to run for another term and will now Capitalize on the position his Incumbency has left him in.
No longer his concern.
Right HC -
We've agreed to this system but, just as readily, we could see the opposite.
One thing in place of another thing.
As Lennon would have put it: ",,,if you want it."
She knows nothing about ed. Just another religious freak with a lot of money.
Dems at least most of this bunch are scum.
Of course! And Gov Baker is angry that the good people of MA voted for NO expansion of charter schools.
Why take a post if she HATES public schools and teachers? Maybe she should "divest" and live on a teacher's salary- better yet live on public assistance for the rest of her days.
