A new analysis of G20 countries found that despite warnings from international scientists of a looming climate catastrophe absent dramatic action within the next decade or so, governments in most of world's top economies are providing sizeable subsidies to the fossil fuel industry while planet-warming emissions continue to rise.

Of course in the US many states and cities are moving ahead with emissions reductions States and cities are trying to meet the US pledge to reduce emissions despite Trump pulling the US out of the Paris climate agreement but it isn’t likely the pledge can be met without help from the federal government. Because the US has replaced so much coal with natural gas it has reduced carbon dioxide emissions more than most other developed countries but Trump is pushing things backwards with roll backs of vehicle fuel efficiency standards and rules for preventing methane leaks. The pledges are too weak and so far most countries are not on track to meet their pledges so I would think a temperature increase above 4C is very possible and with positive feedback considered an additional increase of one or two degrees seems likely. At this point it appears that the feared catastrophic consequences of climate change will take place.
isn’t it a shame that we will force our newer generations to live under the climate we have left to them. it is up to us to at least try.
