Don't Be Fooled By Small Donations to Presidential Campaigns

Is $69 the new $27?

When Bernie Sanders ended his run for the Democratic nomination, the small donor narrative seemed over for this presidential cycle. But last week, small donors roared back, reportedly fueling Donald Trump and the Republican National Committee’s huge July fundraising take.

At a rally last week, Trump announced that he had raised $35.8 million from 517,000 small donors with an average contribution of $69.

Recall Dubya's 2000 campaign serially accusing Al Gore of applying "fuzzy math" to whatever the GOP didn't agree with Gore on ?

Turns out Dubya was the champion of fuzzy math prior to and during his two terms in the White House.

Since then "campaign finance reform" and Citizens United have made "fuzzy math" the rule, not the exception in 21st century politics. Be prepared for ever fuzzier math the closer we get to November and vote for Jill Stein if you want the numbers to add up, diuring the 2016 election cycle AND during the next four years !

In the immortal words of Georgia A. McWallace, " public financing of all national elections ( Congressional & Presidential ) today , public financing of all national elections tomorrow, public financing of all national elections forever ". You want a healthy restart to representative democracy? It begins with this. And, severe limitations on all statewide runs would be next up. Then to regional, county and city halls, etc. The seeds of corrupting influence begins to grow from the pocket books of the wealthy.
