'Don't Listen to This War Criminal!': Peace Activists Arrested at Elliott Abrams Hearing on Venezuela

Jessica Corbett, staff writer

"Don't listen to this war criminal!"

So declared CodePink peace activists on Wednesday, as Trump-appointed special envoy to Venezuela Elliott Abrams testified before the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs, before they were ushered out of the room and arrested.

"Venezuela needs negotiations, not a coup or military intervention," said CodePink national co-director Ariel Gold, the first to be arrested, as she decried ongoing U.S. intervention in the Latin American country. "Don't let Abrams take us down a path of war."

Hats off to Code Pink, they’ve nailed Abrams, a true war criminal outside the US, and treasonous citizen inside the US.

Code Pink should be officially appointed as the, “conscience’, of the US government.

Didn’t Dennis Kucinich suggest a Dept of Peace at some point when he was a rep. from Ohio?

Yes he did. I have thought that it would be fitting payback if a truly progressive President appointed him or someone like him to be Secretary of Defense.

Abrams and Walrus Face Bolton are war criminals who deserve to be shot by firing squad by whatever country can capture them trying to instigate subversive right-wing militants. The sooner the better.

Rebellious Venezuelan military officers? Hugo Chavez was sent to college by the army. He went on from there to become President Hugo Chavez, inventor of a hack-proof ballot and the most advanced seven branch democracy on Earth.

The Venezuelan Army knows their boy was attempting to make their country strong enough to resist US financial totalitarianism and dominion. The Venezuelan Army knows chaos in the streets is a part of a US destabilization regime change coup.

When I fantasize about my cabinet if I were president, Kucinich is always my Secretary of Peace.

I’m visualizing Abrams in several prisons at once.

Not to dismiss the male involvement in Code Pink–but you gotta love those girls: “I say, the woman today are smarter than the man in everyway” (Grateful Dead).
And if Eliot Abrams is concerned “a man,” an assumption we all have reason to question; then they’re also infinitely superior morally.

Bravo for the brave citizens of Code Pink!!

Awesome women activists sometimes make me feel that way too, but then people like Hilary Clinton, Madeline Albright, and Margaret Thatcher remind me you don’t need a Y chromosome to be a psychopathic war criminal. Although that is not responsive to the Grateful Dead’s suggestion they are smarter.

There is smart and intelligent, and then there is clever and devious. The chromosomes seem to demure to predatory capitalism coupled with twisted ego.

The smugness of a knuckle dragging fixer. Only crackles when he can feed off the alarm he generates among people of conscience. Evil in the world? Oh yes.

I want to talk about previous U.S. invasions.

One day during the Reagan Administration, somebody discovered that the microscopic island of Grenada was building an extra-long runway that would support jets capable of bombing the United States of America, preparatory to a socialist invasion of, um, say, Miami. So, Reagan called out the army. The invasion was quick. It came out that Grenada had hired American and British firms to build the runway because they wanted modern jets filled with tourists to land on their Caribbean island. The idea of a little tiny island invading the United States didn’t make the least bit of sense, but whatever.

Jean-Paul Aristide stopped being called Roman Catholic Father Jean-Paul Aristide so that he could run for President of Haiti. He was almost certainly the most honest and Christian popularly elected President that Haiti ever had. The CIA abducted Persident Aristide from the Presidential palace late one night and dropped him off in the middle of Africa. Then our nation’s CIA handed Haiti back to the corrupt gangs that worked with Papa Doc and Baby Doc Duvalier.

I did a double take when you credited the song, Man Smart, Woman Smarter, to The Grateful Dead. They did indeed do the song in the '80s and 90s, but it was originally popularized by Harry Belafonte on his Calypso album of 1956. I guess because I’m old, that’s the version I will always remember.

Being in the military at the time of the Grenada invasion, I always felt it’s main purpose was a kind of pep rally for the military, a “feel good about you’re military again” type of thing for the American people. Remember this was only a few years after we left Vietnam with our tails tucked between our legs, and had the horrible attempt at a rescue in Iran, and at the time the administration was starting to push for military involvement in Latin America, and of course congress was pushing back on that action. We rescued medical students, who for the most part, didn’t realize they needed rescuing. You’re right, it wasn’t needed, and even though it was quick, was FUBAR to say the least.

The only reason Elliott Abrams, a convicted war criminal, was never incarcerated for his egregious, war crimes in central America, is he was pardoned by another war criminal!

Abrams is yet something else that Congress has allowed Don to get away with.
As if TWO Supreme Court justices in TWO years isn’t sadistic enough.

Right, while the media shed tears over Bush Sr.'s passing.

Well, most of the Democrats and most of the Republicans applauded Trump when he talked about our imperialism in Venezuela during his speech to the nation or whatever (to quote George W). There is simply no real moral leadership from most in the government now in either party. They don’t care really that 45,000 Americans die every year because of this healthcare system. They don’t care that they aren’t doing much about an environmental collapse that is right around the corner. They don’t care to do anything about corruption because the corruption benefits them. They don’t care that so many of them have been screaming about Russia interfering in our elections with Facebook memes or whatever, while turning around and supporting a freaking coup in Venezuela (and Honduras in 2009). I could go on. No leadership, no solutions to our problems, no creativity or alternatives, nothing. Just control fraud, corruption, and a bunch of rent seeking assholes with lots of power. Pelosi and Schumer are just as worthless as most Republicans, and they agree with them on policy far more than they disagree. Pretending otherwise is silly at this point.
