Drawing All the Wrong Lessons From Media’s Election 2020 Failures

Attention whore Trump drew eyeballs that both loved and loathed him–corporate media wet dream. The national discussion has been about him and not about crumbling infrastructure, income inequality, empire, climate challenges, rural health care, plastics in our bodies and waters, etc. Our “reality TV” society is so disconnected from reality and so shallow and our politics are so polarized and downright tribal on one side that we are a nation in great peril. FDR was great president because he both inspired the people to pull together and facilitated change with innovative programs such as the CCC and WPA. We are in need of that type of leadership again. Don’t hold your breath. Nevertheless, at least IQ45 will be gone shortly.

Exactly. We have accomplished the most important achievement of our lifetimes—we defeated Trump (who never had a policy of his own and whose only agenda was to promote his brand.).

We can now all rest easy and go back to brunch as Mitch McConnell (re-elected handily) and a Senate with a majority Republican/fascist membership continues apace at dismantling our democracy, our government and our country, for the profits of a handful of oligarchs, while majority Republicans at the state level continue to decimate the voter rolls.

But we stripped the Trump nameplate off the door, so everything is great again…

… I completely agree with her assessment. One of the most encouraging memes that came to the fore with Trumps 2016 win was the emergence of the term ‘normalizing’ with respect to not only all the egregious fallacies of Trump himself -but also that of his own Trumpian followers…
… That term -probably thanks to the MSM itself- only saw traction for the first few months of 2017 before it seemed to ultimately slip into obscurity…
… Words matter… And Narratives matter even more…

White washing from “the heartland”

What, you don’t believe that when Trump is gone and we have a center-right government with a Democrat as the figurehead that all our troubles will be over? You’re not watching enough Rachel Maddow…

Thanks ! This is the best synopsis of the problem that I’ve seen, even better, I think, than the CJR article referenced. The “media” has to become less reactive to the “newsmakers” and instead dive into the ubiquitous but unheralded dissatisfactions of the rest of us, even if this means criticising those we’ve voted for.
