Enbridge to Fork Over $75 Million for Role in Kalamazoo Tar Sands Spill

Deirdre Fulton, staff writer

The Canadian energy giant responsible for a pipeline rupture that spilled close to one million gallons of tar sands oil into the Talmadge Creek and Kalamazoo River in 2010 has reached a $75 million settlement with the state of Michigan, an amount that leaves environmentalists asking: Is it enough?

The article states:
"Michigan Radio adds that Enbridge is still negotiating settlements with the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), as well as other federal, state, and local entities for damages it caused to natural resources in the state—and that Hall expects the company will get hit with heavy payments in these upcoming settlements".

First of all, the State of Michigan failed the people in the area of that spill miserably with this diluted, miniscule settlement- They have tried unsuccessfully for 5 years to get that shit out of that river, to no avail-How many lives will be lost from the toxins this "UNCLEANABLE" spill will leave in it's wake?
And to expect any reasonable compensation from the inadequate, Corporate Captured EPA is pure folly-
No amount of money will make that area and it's people whole again- Mark another one up for Big Canadian Dilbit poison Inc.- This is only the tip of the iceberg of what's to come once the TPP is signed and the Koch suckers fire up their ubiquitous poison pipelines to Gulf refineries and then load this poison crap up on existing Exxon Valdez type vessels to ply the Earths oceans to finish off and suck the barely surviving life from the Environment of this once great planet-
I'm seeing pipeline leaks, ruptures, leaky oil tankers run aground and our atmosphere saturated with unbreathable, sun blocking toxic fume/sludge...Permanently Polluted precious fresh water aquifers and an already dying acidic Ocean compromised to total, irreversible toxicity-
And the band played on....
