'Endless War' Continues as US Troops Re-Enter Combat Against Taliban in Kunduz

Jon Queally, staff writer

Two days after Taliban fighters launched a surprise attack and took control of the northern city of Kunduz, promises made by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani that his forces could quickly re-take the city have not been realized and reports on Wednesday reveal that U.S. Special Forces units are now on the ground engaging in the fight as new rounds of U.S. airstrikes continue.

The neocon chickenhawks are no doubt basking in their war porn going into extra innings (which serious people assumed would be the ultimate fate starting in 2001). Bill Kristol is no doubt flapping his gums on the Sunday talk shows. The country learned little from its Viet Nam debacle.

I used to think that Bush 43 was a fool but I now recognize his genius. The idea of a low level war that cannot possibly come to an end was brilliant. The arms merchants are happy, the public is happy because there is no draft and the families of the dead soldiers get to display a gold star and that keeps them drinking the kool-aid. As long as everyone is happy, God is in his heaven and all's right with the world. Every sporting event begins with a presentation of the colors and a Thank You to the brave men and women who are fighting the barbarians at the gates of the U.S., keeping us free so that we can enjoy such sporting events. Everyone knows that the Taliban, Al Qeida and IS want to enslave or behead the American people and they are not fighting us just because we are there. Therefore, we have to fight them there so that we don't have to fight them here. Now, all of this may seem ludicrous if presented to an educated public, but the U.S. public is not well-educated and has swallowed the neocon program and gives it its full-throated approval. I have attended two professional sports events in the past year (Tampa Bay Rays and Bucanneers) and on both occasions, the crowd lept to its feet and cheered mightily at the announcement that members of the armed services who were protecting our freedoms were on the field with the color guard! I tip my hat to the neocons...they got the world they wanted and I didn't.

" The idea of a low level war that cannot possibly come to an end was brilliant."

The war racket is the best con ever devised by man. A trillion $$$$$$$ racket that is approved by the majority of the conned and brainwashed AMERICANS! And if General Smedley Butler were alive today he would no doubt see the genius of having an enemy called terrorism that has been manufactured to provide demand in order to perpetuate its racket.

"It Can't Happen Here"? Think again! - "when fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross" - Sinclair Lewis

President Roosevelt warned us against corporate fascism when he said: "The first truth is that the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. "

President Eisenhower warned us against the power of the MICC and his prescient warning along with FDR's, have come to pass in spades! Our elected leaders serve corporate fascism, the war machine and war-profiteers, not our nation’s sustainable peaceful future. Every Congressional district is home to a major arms manufacturer, sub-supplier, or sub-sub-supplier effectively subverting independent civilian representation to military expenditures fueled by endless wars – the “jobs” scam. All our so-called leaders are corrupted to, and serve, this reality.

After the demise of the Soviet Union the MICC/Pentagon/warmonger sector desperately needed a new boogeyman, and viola!, a perfect 'enemy" was created via 9/11, an amorphous, non nation-state enemy that can be defined any way the war cartel wants/needs. "Extremist", "terrorist", "militant", “illegal combatant” all used as needed to justify endless war, created/manufactured by the West - trillions diverted from civilian priorities to military spending with uncounted billions in profits available.......

Reasons for fighting a war:

  1. We're fighting for oil fields.

  2. We're fighting because somebody is shooting back at us.

  3. We're fighting because we promised some unbearably cute little girl that we'd defend her country. Would you believe that we promised some minor Afghan drug lord and thug that he could become president and we'd give him weapons? Well, how about we promised the American voters that we'd win this war and if we don't deliver, they'll kick our backsides all the way back to our dinky hometown law practices?

  4. We're fighting because, even if the USA is $18.4 trillion dollars in debt, we can always borrow another trillion for the next war and give most of it to our greedy political friends. So let's have another war!

Wait and see. Next year warrior goddess will be coming. There will be all out war and that would make every patriot immensely happy.Joblessness will push the army recruitment very high. So the perpetual war machine will continue and the tax-payers will take the burden.

Like Chris Hedges and others often speak of, this nation and it's hyper-masculine, Military/Industrial complex, seeks perpetual war so they can make perpetual profits.
