Endless War Is Alive and... Bleeding

Endless War Is Alive and... Bleeding

Robert C. Koehler

Good and evil leap from the headlines: “Egyptian planes pound ISIS in Libya in revenge for mass beheadings of Christians.”

It’s nonstop action for the American public. It’s the history of war compressed into a dozen words. It’s Fox News, but it could be just about any mainstream purveyor of current events.

All true enough, but there's nothing new about this. The U.S. has been engaged overtly or covertly in wars for more than a century. What makes the current activity seem exceptional is the 24-hour news cycle. Even with the Mideast in its usual turmoil, the present violence can't compare with the wars -- most of them unnecessary and sponsored by the U.S. for political and economic reasons -- that raged in the 1960s and '70s. Countless millions of people have been killed, wounded and rendered homeless by these conflicts in Asia, Africa, the Mideast and Latin America, but these events are glossed over as "Cold War clashes" or "local power struggles" and of course the U.S. role is minimized or covered up entirely. Instead, war is used as a tonic by U.S. politicians who pound their chests and try to sound tough for the gullible and ignorant folks who dutifully re-elect them again and again. The "current madness" is not really current at all It's just the same old madness magnified by the spotlight of expanded media attention. And our "democracy" is so beautifully rigged that there's not a darn thing that ordinary Americans can do about it.

It may have always been there. But it has certainly gone mad after 911.

swords into plowshares
It is ironic to think about the 'silo' having been morphed all the way to status as unicorn horn on the frontal lobes of gluttonous powers and WMD delivery. A closed loop of magical thinking that turns against imagination, integrity and capacity to learn and change. The antecedent to the silo we recognize was among the first material architectural forms imagined by human beings. The integrity of conceptual architecture is something we live every moment of every day with the elegance of openings in uncertainty and respect. How many times a day do we practice restraint and pause, creating space?
The death dealing requires constant momentum. the constant rolling forward of weaponry costs - no doubt a factor in the massive arms delivery on credit to justify claims in the spreadsheets for the next year's killing budget is prime example. It is the core strategy to make people internalize that dynamic so that the MORE, MORE, MORE never becomes verbalized, but is short circuited in a pavlovian methodology. No uncertainty = no learning = ineducability = more investment in killing.
Death comes soon enough in the natural order, where is the art of living?

.....and we have the Hardball people to stoke the fires of hate. Matthews pretends to be against war but pre-Iraq invasion, he had no one but military stooges on his program. The 911 false flag was trumped as a causus belli. Opposing voices were ridiculed, the Pentagon propaganda was drummed into the viewer. Now Matthews is pumping up another war for his zionist masters. Never a mention of the cost while social services for the American public are decimated.

You left out adopting a vegetarian diet. That has more impact than anything else that one individual can do.

War, like education, healthcare and law enforcement is big business. In war, victory is measured in dollars and cents.

From Koehler's piece:

"We’re in a state of perpetual war and have no intention of escaping it. Certainly we have no intention of critiquing our own actions or — don’t be silly — questioning the effectiveness of war, occupation or high-tech terror (think: “shock and awe”) as a means to create a stable, secure world."

As Einstein sagaciously related, "No problem can be solved from the level of thinking that brought it about."

That's why I continue to point out the idiocy of embracing a WE-frame, the very one that takes what is executed by a military TRAINED to kill, and a virtual coup-government (one that eclipses citizen input and silences journalists who deviate from simplistic and FALSELY planned Official Storylines) beholden to it, and passes the acts of this ilk off as somehow representative of the full citizenry... as if we all rape, kill, pillage, and plunder.

These frames normalize violence.

You cannot critique something or expose its alternative so long as you identify with the frame that is itself behind the crimes being executed against humanity.

Many recognize that our media is captured, and that the majority of its guest "experts" happen to be those who hold positions within the Armed Forces or otherwise profit directly from defense firms and the weapons they keep rushing into production as unchecked wars demand. That is tainted witness packaged as lies told often.

WE don't all gun down Black youth. Certainly the Black community opposes this.

We don't all rape or use sexual violence. Certainly most women oppose these acts.

We don't all support wars or militarism. Certainly those who work for Peace and resist war don't.

I am TIRED of this "one size fits all" knee-jerk authoritarian frame that looks to what authoritarian powers do, and attributes THEIR work to The People. This frame discounts the will, wishes, morality and intelligence of the millions who want no part of the Killing Machine.

The KILLING MACHINE does not represent the fabric of One Uniform People. The citizenry is represented by a far more diverse characterization. It is a dangerous component of propaganda to push this Uniform Frame, even if not understood as such by those who so promiscuously make use of it. I think some do as a direct result of the Judeo-Christian ethos' emphasis on Original Sin. So deep does this teaching go that many identify with collective wrongs. ALL are thus guilty sinners. How convenient to The Deep State; nor is it any coincidence that whenever the church teams up with the state, authoritarian measures aimed at robbing citizens of Civil Liberties and basic Sovereignty escalate. Plainly, that is the case now!

It's one thing if citizens have agency, if media tells the truth and elections open the door to all sorts of voices. What WE, which is to say citizens of not just America, but increasingly, most of the West have instead are bought and paid for elections, a mass media controlled by those who own it, and trafficking in lies and falsehoods so pervasive that not enough people understand the events of their times.

And generally, when people get out into the streets to protest, the policing thugs answerable to "following (the) orders" of their authoritarian paycheck wielders, bust heads.

The serial killer who uses devious means to get the child or young woman into the car is far more responsible for the violence than the person seduced by his deception.

This metaphor is useful in that the serial killer here is the MIC and the innocents drawn into his vehicle are average peace-loving citizens who don't have the cognitive skills to see or understand evil... particularly when it works undercover. And in this era of militarized police departments trained to see protesters as enemy combatants, neither do they have a peaceful means for taking down and disarming this massive Beast.

Being dominated, coerced, and controlled is hardly the same thing as consensus or informed consent. But so long as writers like Koehler toss all citizens into the same category, no border can be found between innocence (and those opposed to the status quo) and the Dominators who use every devious measure and weapon they can to maintain the brutal status quo that positions them in positions of power.

Good citizens have effectively been abducted by this Beast. However, there are forces in heaven and earth that go beyond the ordinary mundane understanding, and the dials of time turn. This era will not last.

Bullochs! Those who posit that "it's always been thus and so" use this same frame for suggesting that there's nothing new in the way of climate change cum chaos.

They leave out frequency, power, and intensity.

A century ago, the weapons were quite different and didn't leave behind radioactive/toxic residue capable of mangling the genes of broken lands' future generations.

Years ago, before a handful of corporations gained control of print, radio, and TV mass media, there WERE considerable voices of respected anti-war experts, professors, doctors, sociologists and such heard.

That is NOT the case today.

The legal system, not to mention elections from campaign to held office were influenced by Big Money, but hardly to the current extent.

Presidents had to go to Congress to get approval for war. But the false flag eliminated that legal barrier tout suite.

Violence is far worse today because from the kill ratio of bombs to the distancing of drones, mass murder rates are phenomenal. And then the authorities don't bother to count them, and with a virtual "Reporter Free Kill Zone" attached to many lands under combat, only the bravest of journalists would venture into these badlands to obtain a truer story than that which embedded reporters are expected to relate... like so much "catapulted propaganda" to quote one illustrious excuse for a commander-in-chief.

It is true that the U.S. MIC has used war to shore up profits, power, and influence for a long time; but it is not true to classify the increasingly deadly methods and protocols as mere same ole, same ole.

... As planned. With the added bonus of instituting the "war abroad leads to tyranny at home" protocols.

The Media is Mightier Than War©

“War Is a Racket...It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes." U.S. Marine Corps Major General Smedley D. Butler.

I am a Marine Vietnam Veteran (Combat Intelligence NCO assigned to Scouts); and demand We The People Occupy the Foreign Policy decision making process. We must form dynamic strategic alliances, creating trustworthy information channels that offer knowledge and intelligence from organized communities and open sources communicating awareness, purpose, principals and values, thus stimulating citizens’ imagination and sustained actions, recognizing their Constitutional obligations and achievements within and among our communities, and their dynamic participation in defining our Nation’s role in world affairs. Most notably ~

Who Sacrifices and Who Pays?

We must connect current Folly Policy especially the vast expenditures for preventive wars of choice to our devastated economy and national security! This point of concurrence must enlighten Americans, as independent thinkers so that they will influence and eliminate the propensity to wage WAR by delusional cowards of the Complex that President Eisenhower warned us about.

Communities and Interfaith Congregations must strategically organize nation-wide and participate fully and equally in the foreign policy debates creating modesty, realism, transparency and accountability, keeping in mind that WAR PROFITEERING is the existential threat to our humanity! When it comes to protecting and supporting our troops, veterans and their families, herein lies the moral essence of U.S. citizen obligation.

We must deeply understand the very complex nature of genuine fears, threats, and the required measured responses, which will either affirm or eliminate the obsolete components, assumptions and foundations of post-World War II U.S. Foreign Policy, and their most devastating economic and environmental impacts on communities here and abroad. This task will take incredible moral courage as intense and sustained as our warriors serving in harms’ way purportedly protecting our Nation and way of life.

As citizens of a deteriorating democracy, we must, repeat, must demand and integrate the facts (genuine intelligence and public knowledge) to fully comprehend the enormous challenges before us. We must rethink our political and diplomatic relations, passionately reflecting on and changing our values and allegiances that have had and continue to have brutal effects on our fellow humans. We must strongly lead our foreign policy making that has profound impacts on hundreds of millions of men, women, and children. Our justice system must hold elected and/or appointed decision-makers and officials accountable with severe sanctions when they break international and US laws ~ crimes against humanity and peace...etc.

We The People are the Best and Brightest and ultimately responsible for their decisions. We must instruct our government employees about the great truths for solving our most dangerous problems. This dynamic struggle is about our core beliefs and ideas of our Nation, its vision and the underlying moral principles and values inherent in our Constitution, Declaration of Independence and most international treaties that inspire us to take preemptive actions to protect our world...when we choose.

We must choose to be a progressive world leader, with our courageous and honorable military being recast into its essentially supporting defensive role as a complement and backup for the other vital components of our national security strategies and public diplomacy. We must authenticate clear and present dangers, international perceptions, ground truths and trustworthy intelligence, and the political and economic assumptions of proposed policies and actions; and implement threat reduction using all of these components, as necessary.

Our choice to redress the grievances of previous and current devastating folly policy (Vietnam War, support for Saddam Hussein and dozens of repressive thugs...etc.), and to reestablish our prestige and exert legitimate power insuring grassroots progress toward greater international stability, understanding, tolerance, prosperity and abundance will be the dynamic organizing principles to develop, fund and enhance systems, measures, programs and institutions that will prevent economic crisis and WAR PROFITEERING.

Legitimacy of moral life depends on the willingness of men and women to struggle with such questions before they decide what to do. Karl Jaspers, a Jewish-tainted German WW II philosopher notes, “all men, like all nations, are tested twice in the moral realm ~ first by what they do, then by what they make of what they do. A condition of responsibility denotes a kind of second chance: men are, as if by a kind of grace, given a chance to repay to the living what it is they find themselves owing the dead.”

There are solutions to endless war and to most other societal problems that are acceptable to right, left and the rest of us. Ones that don't require going through the power establishment, but simply reveal their transformative logic to the public. Some are rapidly becoming mainstream. Here is one:

As long as there are the simpletons of society ready, willing and able to step up to the plate to go to foreign lands to make war on the peoples living there, because the great white/black father says to, there will be wars to fight. Of course the only good thing that comes out of these American made wars is the culling of the worst of US society so their damaged genes don't replicate. How else can you explain it? Only brutal fools and the mentally incompetent sign up to become cannon fodder for the degenerate and decaying American empire and their loss helps keep the overall gene pool relatively free of their regressiveness.

Thank you again, Bob Koehler, for your summary of the state of our sad nation; I cry with
you - and I think you have named it - that most, even here, don't seem to 'get it' yet as to how far this insideousness has formed itself. You are quite a troika - Chris, and Glenn and yourself! So happy yo see you all together here! Don't know what it'll take to get S.R. to
get off some of her extrabeous rants - I usually quite agree with her. This world needs more gratitude, I guess - for the good news we do have - thanks to insightful souls like
you. Love/peace, Elizabeth/ny

I think this is important. The use of WE is central to the maintenance of the illusion that divergent opinion is equal to that of the rigorously managed media narrative. Divergent opinion is not equal. It has no chance to be equal. I do not use WE or OUR when commenting on the behavior of the American government. I have not done so for many years. About commenting. For news organizations, the quantity of comments is their chief method of estimating their impact on the issues. No big discovery there. This I learned recently because I participate in several European forums, two of which are German. Unless you follow the European press you would not know that several opinion leaders of the German press have been exposed as C.I.A. assets. As a result, their long established readership is abandoning them en masse and their on-line commentary has shriveled. There is a mass market for truth. When Americans (and this includes government spokes-things) start expressing their opinions and actions based on verifiable facts, I will become a WE again.

And one reason why........
"(Reuters)
Feb 19 - International firms will scramble for new orders at the Middle East's largest arms show which opens in Abu Dhabi next week as oil-rich Gulf states load up on weapons in a region rocked by instability and violence. The Middle East is the largest market driver in the industry with billions of dollars spent annually on buying military equipment, from drones and jet
fighters to guided missiles.".............
its for profits

the phrase that continues to pop in to my mind is "you can bomb the world to pieces , buy you can't bomb it into peace " Michael Franti

Yes. 'Success'! The War Mongers Whole Point...is to neither win nor lose. It is to continue, and continue. That is how Weapons/Munitions are sold! and how the Public is kept 'heads down', whilst the Same Thieves (same folks make the weapons) steal Everything! )... and discredit/kill any whistle-blowers who speak up.

Mr. Kohler passion for the pursuit of "peace" is by now evident. Unfortunately he still believes that somehow repeating the same things over and over will somehow change things. We know this , Robert. And you also have received alternatives to help not just Americans, but all activists of the world to unite and reclaim the narrative with unconventional approaches. The truth is that real change is prevented by authors and organizations who lack imagination and interest in anything new, despite the fact that JFK, MLK, Mandela, Jane Addams, MalcomX, the XIV Dalai Lama have said over and over that peace is NOT the opposite of wars.

Here's the solution, Mr. Kohler and CommonDreams, staff who have the duty to seek the suggestions of thousands of people who may have no means to be heard nor money to promote their ideas, but are just as committed to change and empowerment.

The problem you don't see is that by perpetuating this WAR vs PEACE narrative you have no control over it. War is peace is Orwellian and keeps as prevailing narrative because not only you reinforce it but don't see the projects that in essence allow us to change that. Changing the narrative on war and peace and seeing that it's ACTIVISM in GENERAL, that realizes peace, activism is THE leaderless movement and all causes, all fights, all conflicts fought by activists have PEACE as their inherent PURPOSE!

the repeace.com project allows Americans to reclaim the narrative and reject the Orwellian narrative. If you gave it a chance we could have prevented more violence and more deaths, not just "over there"... at home also, in the streets of Ferguson for example.

It's amazing that those who write about peace have had no problem standing behind the dogma of IMAGINE, can't actually seem to be able or willing to imagine a thing. There's nothing more disheartening than seeing that people with no vision are allowed to keep writing things that don't have any practical solutions in them. CD and Robert Kohler, your responsibility is not just to tell us what we already know, but seek the solutions that might be there. If some of them seem too abstract, you can ask to explain.

Activists purpose is to realize peace. If peace is stuck in a false identity, REname it. REthink it, REkindle the spirit, don't try the same things over and over expecting different results.... That's what Einstein calls Insanity.
