“Every Darn Penny”: The GOP’s Philosophy on Death and Taxes

Richard Eskow

The Republican philosophy to reward those who need it least.

The Republican tax bill remains extremely unpopular, according to current polls. Unless they can distract the public with other issues, they may pay a steep political price for it.

I seem to remember a similar out-of-touch comment by apex plutocrat Nelson Rockefeller, who once began a bloviation with “Take the typical family with an income of $100,000…” at a time when the median income was a tenth of that. He just picked some arbitrary number that was so low, he just knew nobody but a peasant could live on it.

From the article:

“Unless they can distract the public with other issues, they may pay a steep political price for it.” It’s those “other issues”—North Korea, Iran, Jerusalem, Afghanistan, etc., etc. that have me concerned.

Typical Republican campaign slogan translated:

I’ve got mine, now gimme yours.

Unless, of course their going to the family values playbook, in which case it’s:

Jebus is going to throw your ass in hell if you vote for a Democrat.
