Experts Note Not-So-Subtle Push for Regime Change and War as Pompeo Threatens to 'Crush' Iran

Jake Johnson, staff writer

In a speech at the right-wing Heritage Foundation on Monday that critics said should put to rest all lingering illusions that the Trump White House wants anything other than regime change in Iran, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo outlined a "wildly unrealistic" list of demands that Iran must meet if it wants nuclear talks with America and warned that the U.S.

Rather than controlling Iran’s nuclear weapons capability, Team Trump is giving Iran a plethora of reasons to develop a nuclear arsenal to defend itself against the US and Israel.

The ultimate distraction: A Duopoly devised War.

Brought to you by the American Voting Electorate.

Hate Prevails.

and war is profitable…more war is more profitable.

Oink, oink, oink.

#6

That tale will not wag any dog with any scents.

#7

Trump will keep us out of wars! He hasn’t killed anyone yet! Remember that fucking nonsense?

Cluck.

Its up to Europe and the EU and other sane nations to step-up to the plate and call-out these neo-fascist war mongers in thrall to the Israeli expansionist agenda and narrative!

EUROPE, stand-up and act with honor and conviction to support the JCPOA! YOUR future and fate may rest on how you respond to the threats of the US trump regime and the nutty yahoo Israeli right-wing racists against Iran! You will be next on the list for decimation if you give-in to the neo-fascist pressure and your business people will suffer - you and your ideas, moral-compass, honor, future mean nothing to trump & co! Iran has acted rationally, honorably, and truthfully, not so the other members of the Axis of evil!

Iran is the last domino of the Israeli-US-Saudi Axis of Evil they want destroyed. Iran has not been belligerent, only stood up for itself and allies! …but the Axis accounts for more war and death and destruction than can easily be counted…if they actually had nukes they would likely be a lot safer.

As most know who post regularly here, I’m not a fan of Obama but like to give credit where credit is due.

On Iran Obama, and indeed Kerry DID oppose the Neocons, and they DID work out an agreement that allowed the easing of sanctions that are devastating to the Iranian people and pursued a policy that was not focused on regime change.

Regime change for Iran has always been the Amerikan, fascists desire. But Iran is not Libya or Iraq. Russia is an ally of Iran and this could be the time that the Amerikan, fascists have bitten off more than they realize.

Lets all hope they are the ones that finally get crushed!

Pompasstic speaks - small man talk like his mentor’s/

Pompeo…the guy who runs ICE…Trump…there all a bunch of plug uglies.

#13

The US is holding the entire world hostage. Europe would be wise to look for new alliances because the old ones sure aren’t working anymore…

#14

Yeah. And I think the day will come when other countries will bond together and come after the US – and finally the US’s karmic train will have arrived.

In a speech at the right-wing Heritage Foundation on Monday that critics said should put to rest all lingering illusions that the Trump White House wants anything other than regime change in Iran, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo outlined a “wildly unrealistic” list of demands that Iran must meet if it wants nuclear talks with America and warned that the U.S. will “crush” Tehran with sanctions if it doesn’t comply.

"If you maximize pressure and set unachievable demands, you solely pave the way for war."
—Trita Parsi, National Iranian American Council

… because the US government doesn’t have enough blood on its hands or enough wars to juggle and to bankrupt the US with –

But what would be the US government’s reaction if another nation were threatening to “CRUSH” us?

Maybe when Iran meets with the US, they can point to our horrific foreign and domestic human rights record, they could look at how many people die just from our healthcare system, the police brutality, they could point to the crimes of our country against theirs, they could point to how utterly corrupt our system is, and they can start making demands about internal changes, just like we do to them for no logical reason, as if we are in a position to demand these things. Same with Cuba. We always demand this or that of Cuba. Well, Cuba should start demanding internal changes in the US.

Our political, economic and media systems are a joke. Not only does Bolton push for an illegal and destructive war, but he is given space to publish psychotic and irrational articles in corporate rags and is once again given power in government. The party in charge is filled with corrupt sociopaths and the so called opposition party announced that they would look forward and not back on that war, and of course no one is ever held responsible for what we do to other countries. Instead of Bolton being in jail, and Pompeo in a white padded room, they are out there pushing for policies only extremist hawks, war profiteers and right wing Christians would love. And thanks to the Democrats for nominating not only a historically bad candidate, but one so hawkish and tone deaf that she bragged about the support she got from Kissinger, Kagan, Newland, Boot and the like. You know, the respectable irrational sociopaths. She did her best to make her look as bad as possible (obviously not the intent, but she was too far gone to see the obvious) to most people that Trump was able to pretend to be something he wasn’t. If there was a much greater contrast, that wouldn’t have been so relatively easy for Trump. And while Trump is a horrible disaster, at least the center-left is fucking paying attention. Cause Clinton would have been horrible on foreign policy if she were president, and many people posting here that provided cover for her and corrupt Democrats would have continued to do so, and most people now paying attention would not have been paying attention. I wish Trump would have lost, but at least people are paying a bit of attention to these issues. They didn’t with Obama and wouldn’t have with Clinton, and Clinton would almost certainly have been worse than Obama on foreign policy.

I agree with the sentiment, but it isn’t possible for the US government to go bankrupt. It can be intellectually and morally bankrupt, which it is and has been for some time, but the state can pay whatever bills there are. That makes our lack of attention to issues impacting the poor and working people all the worse.

Joan –

Very much hope that you are correct –

but Trump is nothing if not a master of bankruptcy and what has happened in
Puerto Rico with their debts being sold off is also a concern.

Is there much difference between Austerity and bankruptcy?

Fingers-crossed that you are correct–!!

#19

Well, an individual state can run into financial trouble that the federal government cannot, and Puerto Rico isn’t even a state. So, Puerto Rico can go broke, although the US could do a hell of a lot more to help Puerto Rico and could easily financially bail it out if it wanted to. We gave about a year’s worth of GDP to financial capital to bail it out when the crash hit, for Christ sake. My point was that these wars are paid for by the federal government, and it isn’t possible for the federal government to default on its debt. It can be made to by sociopath politicians in order to push through changes they couldn’t otherwise get, but there is no reason for it to default on a debt it owes in a currency only the federal government can create.

Considering the head of state that seems to be pushing for this war at least as much as Bolton, will opposition to invading Iran be regarded as “anti-Semitism” too?
