Faith-Based Organizations Warn of Impending Nuclear Disaster

Thalif Deen, IPS News

As the month-long review conference on the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) continued into its second week, a coalition of some 50 faith-based organisations (FBOs), anti-nuclear peace activists and civil society organisations (CSOs) was assigned an unenviable task: a brief three-minute presentation warning the world of the disastrous humanitarian consequences of a nuclear attack.

Accomplishing this feat within a rigid time frame, Dr. Emily Welty of the World Council of Churches (WCC) did not mince her words.

It would be good to see the use of DU weapons included in the ban language .

Here's a classic essay on how religion has screwed up the relationship of mankind to the home planet (written nearly 50 years ago):

The Historical Roots of Our Ecological Crisis, by Lynn White, Jr.

Especially in its Western form, Christianity is the most
anthropocentric religion the world has seen.

I like how there will be hours of talks, and only 3 mins for safety LOL. Only on planet earth can one have all the energy they want fron water and solar and air, yet choose something so freakin dangerous. But thats the naive way to look at it. Senator McCain is a prime example of whats behind the curtain. McCain has millions invested in Nuke Tech, just like the Rice sisters (Condi, etc.) are heavily invested in the XL pipeline. Its irrelevant what is being said. Behavior is more important.

27"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.… Luke 6:27.

First, can you wipe out a billion people in an hour just to get back at one dictator that nobody likes? If you can't do it, don't build it and threaten to use it.

Can you pilot a drone, bomb a building, then watch the aftermath on the drone's camera, citizens digging desperately through the rubble to save lives? If you can't do it, don't vote to have someone else do it in your name.

Can you use depleted uranium or Agent Orange, causing cancer for hundreds of years? If you can't because you are Christian (or because similar texts are in the Koran and Torah) then you should either live your faith or else explain to us why Jesus was wrong here.

Fukushima still rages with its unreported radioactivity spewing into the Pacific Ocean.

There are still three 100% melted reactor cores, still in chain reaction mode, churning out more plutonium 239, cesium 137, strontium 90, tritium (hydrogen 3), iodine 131, etc, all extremely deadly - right now! The Daiichi plant in Japan and 435+ more, worldwide, are teetering on a similar course, if no one takes responsibility.

Fukushima Daiichi's missing cores are unrecoverable, because they are too radioactive; plus after decades worth of spent fuel accumulating in pools of water, amounting to thousands of pounds, each - 4 pools of them, must have gone dry of water. Because: We heard reports of "hydrogen explosions" in all four reactor buildings and video taken then, show three missing roofs (#1, #3, #4) and #2 billowing clouds, unknown, out its blowout walls. Way too many unknowns - way too much time gone by with no trans-national, independent, investigation. This smells of a cover-up - your call! Try calling-out TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Corporation). face-to-face with proof - headlines as proof - you will be arrested, my bet.

From the AP, Nashville, TN - Friday 8 May 2015 13.51 ED:
"An appeals court has overturned the sabotage convictions of an 85-year-old nun and two fellow peace activists who broke into a facility storing much of this country’s bomb-grade uranium and painted slogans and splashed blood on the walls.

In a 2-1 opinion issued on Friday, a panel of the sixth US circuit court of appeals overturned the most serious conviction against Sister Megan Rice, 66-year-old Michael Walli and 59-year-old Greg Boertje-Obed. The court upheld a conviction for injuring government property."

We Americans are so honored to be graced with three such brave citizens to try and break through the enforced news blackout in Japan and the news void here. The nuclear nightmare is real and bankster criminals are to blame for humankind's unreported and preventable extinction.
