A sorely needed protection for the hardest working people anywhere. I am talking about the small farm operation, the family farm and organic farms that are crushed by natural changes, drought, rain, predatory lenders, predatory middlemen and markets - not industrial monsatan poison big-ag that always get the lion’s share and pollutes the earth while the small farmer gets fucked!. They do need a Farmers Bill of Rights. Markets must be stabilized, low/no interest loans government protected and secured, insurance for bad times guaranteed, and health care seen as a Human Right!
"The suicide rate for farmers is more than double that of veterans" and they have no real support network or government relief any more!
I’m with you on this Jim, but it must go further if the small family farm is to survive, and with out them America doesn’t survive the climate crisis.
Corporate farms must be abolished, period. This is who is eating up any positive farm legislation and monetary relief to farmers. It’s not just the corporate entities on the sideline.
The capitalist system must be radically changed or a new economic system put in place for family farmers to survive, this is addressed in you’re article.
And lastly, none of the proposed changes happen in a positive way for the farm community until a complete housecleaning at USDA is undertaken, all corruption in this agency must be removed for us to survive what we face in the future.
