FDA: Nebraska Governor Can't Import Execution Drug

- Common Dreams staff

Nebraska Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts says that last week's repeal of the Nebraska death penalty by the state's Legislature won't stop him from executing the 10 people still on Nebraska's death row.

Ricketts says the state will soon have the three drugs it needs to administer lethal injection that the state ordered earlier this month from a chemical supplier in India.

Sounds like Nebraska's Gov. Pete Ricketts is a sick cookie. I guess that backward part of the country has elected a psychopath for governor. The man is shamelessly rushing to kill people while the law still allows it. The good people of Nebraska should toss a net over him.

Hopefully this mean spirited governor's days are numbered. As for the people of Nebraska, good for you and don't let this sore looser get his way as the lives of ten people are on the line.

#4

You may have meant that loosely, but I'm not so sure you're wrong even from a purely clinical perspective. His attitude is distinctly abnormal.

Well, one solution,if he manages to get his way, would be to have him arrested for murder and for contract killings (assuming he'll be ordering his flunkies to do the killing) and condemn him to life without parole in the general population of a state penitentiary with a healthy mix of gangs. Perhaps he'll be pleading temporary insanity?

Yes, - nice people electrocute or kill prisoners by firing squad.

Regardless of how you kill people, the death penalty is irreversible, and used discriminately against certain groups. The article is about capital punishment, not just what kinds of CP are easier to watch.

But by the way, decapitation was used long before the advent of Islam...

Talk about blood thirsty. For those of you who are not familiar with the Ricketts family, the Governor's father founded Ameritrade and made billions. (I believe the family sold their interests in the company.) The Governor is a graduate of the University of Chicago. His brother Tom runs the Chicago Cubs which the family purchased several years ago. They are now considered the first family of Chicago sports. It is truly amazing, the press barely covered the anti Obama statements the old man made from Nebraska before the last election, lest he tarnish the golden reputation of this First Family of Chicago Cub baseball.

This is pretty much the way I see it. The word psychopath also entered my mind. Why do you suppose it is so important to this guy Ricketts to kill someone? Maybe it's his Christian up bringing that compels him to be without mercy and compassion.

Yes, and the government should not be in the business of state sponsored murder. Killing people to end murder is like fighting for peace. Also, how many wrongly convicted people have been executed in this country? One would be too many but I think it is obvious that many more than that have been wrongly killed by government.

Well said.

There is for me an unavoidable homonym association with the metabolic disorder known as rickets:
Rickets is defective mineralization or calcification of bones before epiphyseal closure in immature mammals due to deficiency or impaired metabolism of vitamin D,[1] phosphorus or calcium,[2] potentially leading to fractures and deformity.

This story has made me think of a million things. The wierdest thought though was Dr. Dre's 'Dre Day'. There is song about serial killing where the words serial killer is sang as the chorus. I remember growing up in the south and being told that gangs were bad because of people that commit gangland style killings, but mainly because they were run by black folk. Yet anything about mob life was a white child's fantasy, as it is most Americans fantasy. I mean, who doesnt remember 'Goodfellas', 'Casino'?. To be able to run and gun anyone and never get in trouble with law, good stuff right? So if serial killing is bad for blacks and good for whites, where does this leave the rest of us? Apperently strapped to a chair waiting on the serial killers to give your injection.

Anyone else trying to import a narcotic will have swat in their bedroom in the middle of the night. Does this society not even think hypocrisy is a real word, or just some phrase from a Dr Suess book? WTF???? The jails are full of drug users and low level dealers, you have got to be kidding me that this guy is still a governor??? Other states have done things to get around drug laws that would put a regular person into the state pen for racketeering an international drug dealing....
