Fox News Reminds Us Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Platform Is...Pretty Reasonable

Jack Holmes

Sometimes, you get an indication that someone on Fox News is getting high on their own supply. Or maybe Sean Hannity's graphics team is just getting sick of him. But it seems more likely that President Trump's late-night-phone-companion is so deep into the Lib-Bashing Vortex that he is starting to lose his grip on things.

I saw this on Esquire and watched Hannity humph and fume at his perceived audacity of these modest proposals. Of course unless a whole slew of these ‘new deal’ socialist democrats get elected nothing will really change. But it’s a step in the right direction for a change. If enough of the youth can see the evil ways of the establishment and their war machine there might be a chance for real change. It will be a struggle none the less.

Sean Ham&Cheese, needs a new line.

Holmes sez: “At one point, Hannity’s production team decided to throw up the policies on the screen behind him. Except they failed to run the graphic through the normally rigorous process of Fox News scaremongerization and white-resentment optimization.”

To those of us who do not ingest Faux News, that stand-alone screen grab of Ocasio-Cortez’s platform may appear entirely reasonable.
But Hannity’s addicts have been indoctrinated against each of those proposals, individually, over decades of said ‘scaremongerization’. Their response to each is reflexive revulsion.

The author adds, jokingly, “Hannity seems to think these positions are self-evidently extreme.” To Hannity’s audience, they are exactly that.

The faux news audience fell down a rabbit hole years ago and indeed operates in a state of delusion 24/7.

#6

I think it’s something they’re putting in the water.

#7

Actually, this article is wishful thinking. Except maybe for the “Support Seniors” issue, Republicans don’t support any of Ocasio-Cortez’s Platform.

“The Villages” the biggest senior citizen enclave in Florida is almost all pro-Trump. “Make America Great Again” means avoid progress for it smells like godless communism to these seniors.

#8

I believe it is called flouride.

#9

Hannity acting dumb is not news. But actually, a good few of his veiwers support some of these planks.

#10

Most Fox viewers, contrary to popular opinion, recognize these policies as disastrous to the real middle class, vast sinkholes for tax dollars, welfare programs, and job killers. She’s a socialist. That’s all you need to know. Whatever she proposes has the end of taking my hard earned income and giving it to someone else.

#11

Oh, so you’re part of the top 1% elite? If so, why the FREAK should we listen to you.

If not, then you are wrong. Right now your hard earned income is being taken away to make that 1% richer. Corporation are subsidized. The Military Industrial Complex takes well over half of all taxes and spends it on unnecessary weapons that are boondoggles that make the ungold rich even more ungodly rich.

If you are part of the ‘real middle’ class, these programs will give you more than you pay.

If you’re a working class person, you are duped. Stop drinking the Koch kool aid before it kills you.

YEA, more free stuff.
Who care how expensive it is or how irresponsible people are
Who cares how corrupt others are.
I am sure someone will pay for it.

It does not matter that this has been unsuccessful in other places.
GET 'ER DONE!

A person making $100k is now a part of the 1%?

YEA I made it
Damn, now I lose more in taxes and others wanting my money

#14

I didn’t say 100K made a person part of the top 1%. It definitely makes you part of the top 20% though. But I tell you that if you want your taxes to go down and your expenses to go down you would be demanding that the MIC be cut drastically, that corporations receive no special tax breaks or subsidies, and that you get more and more of these programs enacted because they would benefit you.

If all the welfare and other type programs the right wingers hate were dumped right now, the amount of tax reduction you’d see would be eaten up by another increase in the defense budget that would dwarf it.

Those who work at Fox/GOP-TV have their own bubble, they must have thought that such a progressive platform would be scary enough to their trumpster viewers that it didn’t need spin … big mistake, they probably just converted a decent fraction of their audience … The segment was designed to attack the platform of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the 28-year-old Democratic Socialist who defeated a titan of the New York Democratic machine in a primary Tuesday night. At one point, Hannity's production team decided to throw up the policies on the screen behind him. Except they failed to run the graphic through the normally rigorous process of Fox News scaremongerization and white-resentment optimization. They just put it up there, spin-free, and it looked...pretty reasonable? https://twitter.com/ndrew_lawrence/status/1012148000674729984/photo/1

She should have added in ‘right to breathe air, without being charged a fee’. They’re already charging for and making huge corporate profits on water…
